Jay Bruce - OF - Reds

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Angels are still searching for a left-handed hitting outfielder.

They picked up Shane Victorino from the Red Sox on Monday, but he's viewed as a depth guy that will start some versus lefties. Heyman lists Jay Bruce, David Murphy and Ben Revere as players that the Angels have been interested in. They've also been connected to Gerardo Parra.

Cubs manager Joe Maddon said Monday that Kyle Schwarber could start seeing more playing time in left field.

He played one inning in left field on Sunday and has been working on outfield drills on days he's not starting at catcher. The outfield isn't totally foreign to Schwarber, as he played left field 36 times in the minors last season. "You saw him play one minute of outfield [Sunday]," Maddon said. "You might see him out there more often as we move along." Schwarber has only been starting three out of every five games at catcher, sitting out on days when Jon Lester and Jake Arrieta pitch. Fantasy owners would obviously love to see his bat in the lineup more often.

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports that the Astros "remain in the thick" of the bidding for Cole Hamels and are "making a big push" for the left-hander.

The Astros acquired Scott Kazmir last week but apparently aren't done in their search for frontline pitching. Houston is on Hamels' no-trade list and it's been reported previously that he might not be willing to waive it in order to go to the Astros. The Rangers are viewed by most as the favorites at the moment to land Hamels.

Mariners acquired RHP J.C. Ramirez from the Diamondbacks in exchange for cash or future considerations.

Ramirez was removed from Arizona's 40-man roster last month and is now getting a fresh start in another organization. He holds a 4.11 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 11/4 K/BB ratio over 15 1/3 innings in the majors this season.

Mark Reynolds is not playing Monday for a second straight day due to a bruised left hand.

Reynolds was hit by a pitch during Saturday's game. He could be available to pinch-hit Monday, although he noted that he'd have to hold his bottom hand off the end of the bat because of how sore it is. Dan Johnson is at first base Monday.
Jul 27 - 8:39 PM

Adam Lind (back) said Monday that he's feeling better and expects to return to the lineup Tuesday.

Lind is missing a second straight start because of a tight lower back. He thinks he could be available to pinch-hit, though, and is aiming to return to action Tuesday. Lind is a good bet to be traded this week, with the Cardinals being one club that's in on him.
Jul 27 - 8:21 PM

Steve Pearce (oblique) remains limited to rest and treatment.

Pearce is eligible to return from his left oblique strain in a week, but he's not going to be ready at that point. "If you test it and you're wrong, you set yourself back another two weeks," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said.
Jul 27 - 8:07 PM

Adam LaRoche won't return to the lineup until Wednesday.

The White Sox are giving the slumping designated hitter two days off to regroup. LaRoche is down to .212/.306/.347 for the season and hasn't homered since June 24. "Rochey can kind of work it out in the cage and have a couple of days knowing he can go in there and work on some stuff," manager Robin Ventura said. "He's trying to figure it out. You continue to do that. He'll be back in there to play. But for two days, he's going to ease the mind and not be in there."
