Lucas Duda clubbed a solo homer in Friday's loss to the Giants.
It was the only offense of the evening for the Mets, who just couldn't get anything going against Ryan Vogelsong. Duda is now up to 20 home runs on the year and has gone deep six times in his last nine games. We've seen some flashes of his potential in the past, but it looks like things are finally coming together for him.
David Wright went 0-for-3 with a strikeout Friday against the Giants.
Wright is now hitting just .170 (9-for-53) with one-extra base hit (a double) over 14 games since the All-Star break. He missed some time late in the first half with a bruised rotator cuff and it's increasingly clear that he's not 100 percent.
David Ross was forced to leave Friday's game against the Red Sox with an apparent foot injury.
The injury occurred while he was running to first base. It's very possible that he finally ruptured the tendon in his right foot, which he had been hoping would occur for some time now. The Red Sox should provide an update on his status shortly.
Brett Lawrie (finger) went 1-for-3 with a walk and a pair of runs scored in his first minor league rehab game with High-A Dunedin on Friday.
He's expected to remain there for at least a week before the club makes a decision on an activation date. It remains unclear what position he will play with the Blue Jays once he is cleared to return.
Carlos Quentin will seek a second opinion next week on the damage to the bone in his left knee.
It's unclear at the moment when, or if, Quentin will be able to return to the Padres this season. He has certainly been no stranger to the disabled list in his career, and shouldn't be counted on at all from a fantasy standpoint.
Pirates general manager Neil Huntington said Friday that Gerrit Cole was scratched from his scheduled minor league rehab start on Saturday so he could "refine some things" in another bullpen session.
It's certainly encouraging news that the scratch wasn't related to a further aggravation of his lat injury. Huntington refused to comment on a specific timetable for Cole's return to the Pirates.
Carlos Gonzalez was removed from Friday's game against the Tigers in the sixth inning due to an apparent injury.
Gonzalez made a terrific sliding catch down the right field line to end the fifth inning, but was slow to get up and was noticeably limping off the field. The Rockies should provide an update on the oft-injured outfielder's status shortly. Brandon Barnes replaced him in right field.
Gerrit Cole (lat) was scratched from his minor league rehab start at Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday.
At this point, the reason for the scratch is unclear. Expect the Pirates to provide an update on the young right-hander's status shortly.
