Mets activated LHP Jon Niese from the paternity leave list.

Niese will rejoin the rotation on Thursday. He was knocked around in his last start but had been pitching really well before that.

Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports that the Angels are close to acquiring David Murphy from the Indians.

Murphy was a late scratch from the Tribe's lineup Tuesday and now we know why. While it won't be a headline-grabbing move, Murphy should be a nice upgrade for the Angels in left field, as he's batting .296/.344/.437 this season and has always been a pretty good hitter versus righties. He should form a platoon with Shane Victorino and spell the end of Matt Joyce's days in Anaheim.

Adam Lind (back) is back in the Brewers' lineup Tuesday.

Lind missed a couple games with lower back stiffness, but he was available off the bench Monday and is ready to roll now. The first baseman is a good bet to be traded this week.
Jul 28 - 6:27 PM

Ryan Braun (back) remained out of the Brewers' lineup Tuesday.

It's the second straight game he's missed with lower back tightness. Braun is considered day-to-day. Gerardo Parra is in right field Tuesday, with Khris Davis covering left.

Major League Baseball has suspended RHP Jenrry Mejia 162 games for a second positive PED test.

Mejia tested positive for Stanozolol and Boldenone. The reliever just returned from an 80-game ban three weeks ago and inexplicably was busted again. The Mets' acquisition of Tyler Clippard looks even bigger now.
Jul 28 - 6:22 PM

Mike Trout (wrist) will undergo an MRI Tuesday.

Trout tweaked his left wrist during Sunday's game. The Angels don't seem worried at this point and think he's probably just day-to-day, but they wanted to send him for an MRI just to be safe. More should be available on his status later Tuesday.
Jul 28 - 6:14 PM

Ivan Nova (arm) is on track to make his next scheduled start.

Nova had to be pulled early from Monday's outing due to some arm fatigue, but it's viewed as part of the recovery from Tommy John surgery. "I'm not hurt," the right-hander said.
Jul 28 - 6:05 PM

Welington Castillo (elbow) is not in the Diamondbacks' lineup Tuesday.

Castillo left Monday's game after being hit on the elbow by a pitch. He looks to be day-to-day for now. Oscar Hernandez is catching Tuesday, while Jarrod Saltalamacchia is serving as the designated hitter.
