Daniel Norris did a fine job against the Astros on Wednesday, allowing two runs -- one earned -- over 6 1/3 innings in a no-decision.

Spotty control has led to spotty results for Norris this year, but the talent hasn't gone anywhere and his rotation spot remains safe. He's 2-3 with a 4.38 ERA in nine starts. His ERA stands at 4.13 in May.
May 24 - 11:42 PM

Shane Greene retired all five batters he faced and was credited with a win in relief Wednesday against the Astros.

Greene showed plenty of potential as a reliever last year, but he couldn't keep his ERA down in the process. This year, he's allowed just three runs in 22 2/3 innings. He's struck out 27 and walked 10 in his setup role.
May 24 - 11:39 PM

Chris Devenski took his third loss after giving up two runs in an inning Wednesday against the Tigers.

We don't see why the Astros are risking running Devenski into the ground when they're sporting baseball's record. Devenski had just pitched 2 2/3 innings on Monday, so he was working on one day of rest tonight. He entered the game at 27 innings pitches this season. The next highest total of any Astros reliever was 19 2/3 innings for Will Harris.
May 24 - 11:38 PM

Justin Upton went hitless in a fourth straight start Wednesday and is now hitting just .229.

Upton's OPS fell below .800 tonight. He ended April at .968, but he's hitting just .160 with three homers, five RBI and 31 strikeouts in 75 at-bats this month. The Tigers need him to rediscover his stroke soon.
May 24 - 11:36 PM

Luis Severino dominated the Royals for eight shutout frames in a 3-0 victory on Wednesday.

He struck out seven batters while allowing four hits and one walk in the gem. He allowed only one runner to even reach second base. Severino improves to 3-2 with a 3.11 ERA after nine starts. He has 61 strikeouts and 14 walks in 55 innings pitched. The 23-year-old has made massive improvements after going 3-8 with a 5.83 ERA last year.
May 24 - 11:34 PM

Alex Bregman went 3-for-4 with a homer, a double and a steal Wednesday against the Tigers.

Bregman still isn't tearing it up, but he is hitting a respectable .273 with three homers in May after coming in at .250 with no homers in April. Steady improvement seems likely.
May 24 - 11:34 PM

Carlos Beltran went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts Wednesday, dropping his average to .234.

Beltran is 6-for-37 in his last 10 games. His OPS stands at .651 at the moment, and just once all season, on April 21, has he finished a game above .700. He'll probably get better, but we wouldn't expect him to suddenly go back to hitting like he did in the first half of last year.
May 24 - 11:32 PM

Dellin Betances struck out the side in a perfect ninth inning to earn a save versus the Royals on Wednesday.

He came on to protect a 3-0 lead in the ninth inning and struck out Mike Moustakas, Lorenzo Cain and Eric Hosmer on 13 pitches. It was his fourth save of the season. Betances is serving as the Yankees' closer while Aroldis Chapman is on the disabled list. Betances has been utterly dominant this year despite struggling with walks. He has a 0.57 ERA with 29 strikeouts and nine walks in 15 2/3 innings.
