Jonathan Stewart (hamstring) is not practicing Wednesday.

As expected. Stewart is fully expected to miss multiple games with his strained hammy. Cameron Artis-Payne, Fozzy Whittaker, and Mike Tolbert will again carry the running-back load Week 4 against the Falcons.

Charles Clay (knee) is not practicing Wednesday.

Clay never practices on Wednesdays. He'll be fine for Sunday against the Patriots.

Sammy Watkins (foot) is not practicing Wednesday.

Watkins is expected to test his foot either today or Thursday and will then make a decision on his Week 4 status. His week isn't starting off on the right foot.

Rob Gronkowski (hamstring) said he's experienced "no setbacks" since last Thursday night's win over the Texans.

In his first action of the season, Gronkowski splayed just 14-of-64 snaps in a very limited offensive role. The Patriots still steamrolled the Texans. Gronk should be closer to full go this week against the Bills and will be a top-end TE1 since he'll likely be in the game for red-zone situations at the very least.

Dez Bryant (knee) will not practice Wednesday.

The Cowboys say Tuesday's MRI results aren't yet known. Yeah, okay, right. Beat writers remain in the dark regarding Bryant's injury and status. It's truly anybody's guess whether Bryant will play against the 49ers.

Chargers signed ILB Korey Toomer from the Raiders' practice squad.

He takes Manti Te'o's roster spot after Te'o tore his Achilles' last Sunday. Toomer has 18 games of experience and will likely pitch in on special teams.

Coach Doug Pederson had nothing but praise for rookie RB Wendell Smallwood's performance following the Week 3 win over the Steelers.

"He's the same type of runner that we felt he was coming out of college and what we saw in preseason," said Pederson. "He's a big, powerful guy. He's a downhill guy. He's a one-cut runner. He did a great job for us." At the link below, Philly Voice's Jimmy Kempski broke down a bunch of Smallwood's runs from the win, and his burst through the hole was incredible. He also showed great awareness to stay in bounds on a 3rd-and-7 run late in the fourth quarter to keep the clock moving. "To get the first down and stay in bounds as a rookie is tremendous," said Pederson. Smallwood missed much of training camp with a quad injury, but he looks poised to take on a big role in this backfield with Ryan Mathews again banged up and struggling to make plays.

Colin Kaepernick finally admitted that his loss of weight has become an issue.

The 49ers haven't said how much Kaepernick weighs, but they admit he's not at his listed 225 pounds. And probably isn't close to it. Kap became a vegan last season, and his weight noticeably started to tumble. He has a plan to gain it back: "Eat food. And a lot of it." His fragile build is likely contributing to coach Chip Kelly not putting Kaepernick on the field. "To get the full Kap for what you need -- the potential that he has," Kelly said, "he needs to continue to just work on the physical aspect of things." Kelly has long been big on physical stature.
