Ryan Mallett completed 9-of-17 passes for 77 yards and a touchdown in the Texans' third preseason game.

Locked-in starter Brian Hoyer played just about a quarter, giving Mallett lots of run in the first half and into the third quarter. The offense largely sputtered after Hoyer left, but Mallett did throw a rocket for a would-be 15-yard touchdown to TE Ryan Griffin, only for Griffin to bobble the ball on the way down and have the score negated. Mallett finally got the offense moving on a third-quarter drive against the Saints' reserve defense, hitting Jaelen Strong for a six-yard score. Mallett is very clearly the backup to Hoyer in Houston and didn't even make it a race this preseason.

Chris Johnson (hamstring) is not expected to play in Sunday night's third preseason game.

Per ESPN's Josina Anderson, Johnson "is still having problems with his hamstring." Johnson returned to practice on Friday, but may have suffered a setback. Recent reports still have Johnson making the Cardinals' 53-man roster.

ESPN Patriots reporter Mike Reiss believes RB Travaris Cadet will not make the final roster.

Cadet was in the third-down running back battle early in camp, but a hamstring injury cost him the first three preseason games. With Dion Lewis shining, Cadet will struggle to make a push even if he can get healthy in time for the final game.

Bears released CB Tim Jennings.

The writing was on the wall when Jennings was playing deep into the fourth quarter of Saturday's preseason game against the Bengals. Jennings started the Bears' first two preseason games, but was generally ineffective and played behind Alan Ball and Sherrick McManis last night. Jennings started all but six games during his five years in Chicago, earning Pro Bowl berths in 2012 and 2013. Only 31, Jennings will certainly get a look from corner-needy teams.

Chiefs waived WR L'Damian Washington.

A undrafted free agent in 2014, Washington spent his rookie year on various practice squads. He will likely have a similar sophomore campaign. Chiefs also waived/released LS Andrew East, TE Adam Schiltz, G Marcus Reed, OT Anthony Dima, CB Kenneth Penny, CB Aaron Hester, OL Charles Tuaau, DE Vaughn Martin, WR Kenny Cook and WR Jeret Smith.

Ben Watson caught a nine-yard pass in the Saints' third preseason game.

As he has all camp, Watson operated as an every-down tight end with the Saints' first-team offense. He caught a nine-yard pass on New Orleans' opening possession, getting the offense in scoring position. Watson continued to play ahead of Josh Hill and has a chance to be a viable streamer against sub-par defenses this year. Watson has a 3-21-1 receiving line this preseason. Watson's season-long ceiling remains low going on age 35.

DeAndre Hopkins caught one pass for 29 yards in the Texans' third preseason game.

Hopkins caught the first completion of the game, whipping Saints top CB Keenan Lewis down the right sideline for a beautiful Willie Mays-ish over-the-shoulder catch, gaining 29 yards. Hopkins was robbed of a first-quarter touchdown when officials ruled he bobbled the ball on the way down from a would-be 19-yard score. Although it occurred in a tiny sample size, Brian Hoyer and Hopkins appeared to flash chemistry in this one.

Mark Ingram rushed four times for 13 yards and caught a 12-yard pass in the Saints' third preseason game.

Ingram was sharp on early outside-zone runs and caught a nifty screen pass on the Saints' opening drive, picking up a dozen. Ingram's increased role in the passing game has come to fruition this August, catching four balls for 57 yards over the last two exhibition games. Ingram is a low-end RB1 pick who could benefit in PPR if C.J. Spiller (knee) misses regular season time.
