Mets manager Terry Collins said the team will consider moving Asdrubal Cabrera (thumb) to second base when he returns from the disabled list.

George Springer (hand) hopes to be in the lineup Friday against the Mariners.

Springer lobbied to stay in Thursday's game after taking a pitch off his left hand but was overruled by manager A.J. Hinch. His X-rays came back negative and the Astros are hoping he'll be available for Friday night's series opener. The Astros appear to have dodged a major bullet here.

Mets optioned RHP Tyler Pill to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Pill struggled in a spot start Wednesday against the Dodgers, allowing six runs over six innings of work. He could probably benefit from a little more seasoning in the minors.

Mets purchased the contract of RHP Chase Bradford from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Tyler Pill was sent down in the corresponding move. Bradford hasn't been overly impressive this year, contributing a 4.26 ERA with nine saves in 13 opportunities for Vegas. This will be his first stint in the big leagues.

Angels GM Billy Eppler confirmed that Matt Shoemaker is still dealing with "symptoms" related to a strained forearm.

Shoemaker was tentatively scheduled to return Sunday against the Red Sox but instead was sent back to Los Angeles for further evaluation. A recent MRI cleared Shoemaker of any structural damage, though obviously there's still something bothering him. Parker Bridwell has been starting in his place.

Denard Span is not in the Giants' lineup Thursday against the Braves.

The Giants are stacking their lineup with right-handed batters with lefty Jaime Garcia on the mound for Atlanta. Gorkys Hernandez will man center field and bat eighth. Span has actually hit better against left-handers than righties this year (.295 vs. LHP, .268 vs. RHP), but the matchup against Garcia was a good excuse to give him a rare night off.

Josh Reddick mashed his seventh homer Thursday in the Astros’ win over Oakland.

He padded the Astros’ lead in the sixth inning by driving a solo blast to right center off Michael Brady. Reddick scored four of Houston's 12 runs while finishing a single shy of the cycle. The 30-year-old has gone 5-for-8 in two games since coming off the concussion disabled list.

Chad Pinder collected two hits Thursday in Oakland’s loss to the Astros.

Pinder ended David Paulino’s afternoon with an RBI double in the sixth and also singled in the fourth inning. Contact issues have dogged Pinder all year but he’s still managed nine homers and 10 doubles to go with a .497 slugging percentage. He’s started games at four different positions this year including second base, shortstop and both corner outfield spots.
