Devon Travis is not in the Blue Jays' starting lineup Monday night against the Yankees.

Darwin Barney will start at second base and bat seventh versus Yankees right-hander Ivan Nova. Travis has batted just .273 with a .591 OPS since returning from the disabled last week, though he has collected three RBI in five games. The dynamic second baseman is a good bet to get it all going soon.

Giancarlo Stanton (side) is out of the Marlins' starting lineup again on Monday.

Stanton was able to take live batting practice Sunday, but the Marlins will give his sore right side at least one more day of rest. Cole Gillespie will start in right field and bat seventh Monday night against the Pirates. Marcell Ozuna is hitting cleanup.

Derek Dietrich was cleared of concussion symptoms.

Dietrich took a ricocheted ball off the back of his head Sunday while sitting in the dugout but apparently came away mostly unscathed. He showed up at Marlins Park in good spirits Monday. Miami's fill-in second baseman is slashing .325/.416/.524 with three home runs and 21 RBI in 44 games this season.

Dodgers RHP prospect Grant Holmes matched a career-high with nine strikeouts Sunday in a no-decision for High-A Rancho Cucamonga.

He scattered four hits and two runs over six innings while allowing just one walk. The 2014 first-round pick is third in the California League with 58 strikeouts this year. Holmes has allowed two runs or fewer in each of his last five starts, trimming his ERA from 3.67 to 3.17 over that span. The 20-year-old is still walking too many hitters (19 free passes) but that's something most young pitchers struggle with.

Blue Jays recalled RHP Ryan Tepera from Triple-A Buffalo.

Tepera has surrendered five hits, three walks, and three earned runs in 2 1/3 innings this season out of the Toronto bullpen. He will pitch in middle relief.

Blue Jays designated INF/OF Jimmy Paredes for assignment.

Paredes had an .886 OPS through 17 plate appearances with the Blue Jays, who acquired him off waivers from the Orioles in mid-May. The 27-year-old will probably draw some interest on the waiver wire.

Reds 3B prospect Taylor Sparks clubbed four hits including his fifth home run of the year Sunday in a win for High-A Daytona.

Sparks is 7-for-9 with three homers and seven RBI over his last two games. His average has climbed from .183 to .212 during that stretch. Sparks hasn't had a good season for the Tortugas but maybe Sunday's outburst is a sign that better times are ahead. Five of his last seven hits have gone for extra bases. Sparks hit .247 with 13 blasts last season in his first year with Daytona.

Orioles RHP prospect Matthew Grimes spanned eight shutout innings Sunday in a win for High-A Frederick.

The eight-inning gem was the longest start of his career. Grimes hasn't allowed a run in his last two starts and now leads the Carolina League with seven wins this year. He also owns the league's second-lowest ERA (1.21) and fifth-lowest WHIP (1.06). The 24-year-old has allowed just one earned run during his four-game winning streak. Despite his success, Grimes has only struck out 37 hitters in 59 2/3 innings this year.
