Erik Johnson will join the White Sox starting rotation Thursday and face the Red Sox.

He's replacing veteran starter John Danks, who was pushed off the 40-man roster on Tuesday afternoon. Johnson owns an ugly 4.17 ERA, 1.55 WHIP, and 6.9 K/9 in 86 1/3 career major league innings.

White Sox designated LHP John Danks for assignment.

Danks allowed six earned runs over five innings against the Orioles last Thursday, watching his season ERA rise to 7.25. He's in the final year of five-year, $65 million deal and will likely pass through waivers unclaimed because of the sum he's still owed. Erik Johnson will take over the vacant spot in Chicago's starting rotation.

Giants RHP prospect Michael Santos held visiting Greensboro to one hit Monday in a win for Low-A Augusta.

He notched five strikeouts over five scoreless innings as Augusta captured a rain-shortened 2-0 victory. Santos opened the game by retiring the first eight batters he faced. He didn't allow another base runner after giving up a single to Zach Sullivan in the third inning. Despite a couple rough outings, the 20-year-old boasts an impressive 23 to 2 K/BB as well as a respectable 1.05 WHIP. He's been in the Giants' farm system since 2013.

An MRI taken Tuesday on Jon Moscot's right shoulder revealed no structural damage.

He was given a cortisone injection and will be unavailable for the next few days, but this doesn't sound like any sort of long-term issue. Moscot had to be scratched from his scheduled start Tuesday against the Giants after complaining of mild shoulder discomfort. John Lamb is going to fill in.

Pablo Sandoval underwent season-ending surgery Tuesday to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder.

Just as many national media members had been reporting. Sandoval appeared in only three games this season for the Red Sox after showing up to camp out of shape and losing his starting third base job to Travis Shaw. He is still owed $58 million guaranteed.
May 3 - 4:16 PM

Cubs LHP prospect Carson Sands racked up four strikeouts over six shutout frames Monday in a win for Low-A South Bend.

Sands held Wisconsin to four hits and three walks in his longest outing of the season. The 21-year-old has been far from dominant this year, registering a mediocre 4.43 ERA in four starts. He's also walked 10 hitters in 20 1/3 innings with only 11 strikeouts. On the bright side, Sands remains undefeated while six of the 10 runs he's allowed this year came in one start. Sands is a work in progress but he's going to get better.

Carlos Gomez (ribs) is back in the Astros' starting lineup on Tuesday night against the Twins.

Gomez missed three straight games because of some mild soreness in his right rib cage. The dynamic 30-year-old will start in center field and bat seventh in his return to action Tuesday versus Twins righty Alex Meyer.
May 3 - 4:12 PM

Matt Harvey has been battling an illness but will make his scheduled start Tuesday versus the Braves.

Harvey will get fluids before the game. He's obviously going to be pitching at less than 100 percent in the home start against Atlanta, but it's such a juicy matchup that he remains a must-play in all fantasy formats.
