Tuffy Gosewisch has been diagnosed with a full tear of his left ACL.
Gosewisch will undergo season-ending surgery soon. It's a real bummer for a 31-year-old who was getting his first shot at a starting job in the big leagues. Jarrod Saltalamacchia is the Diamondbacks' new starting catcher.
Clayton Kershaw got the win after limiting the Rockies to two runs in seven innings as the Dodgers skated to an 11-4 win on Monday.
Kershaw also helped himself at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI single and a run scored. On the pitching side of things, he scattered five hits and a walk while striking out seven. Both runs came in the fourth inning on a Nolan Arenado home run. 2015 hasn't been kind to the three-time Cy Young Award winner, but he's pitched better as of late and now owns a 3.73 ERA with a 1.13 WHIP, and a 90/17 K/BB ratio over 72 1/3 innings. Kershaw will toe the rubber against the Cardinals at home next.
Kyle Kendrick was hit hard in a loss to the Dodgers on Monday, serving up six runs (five earned) over 5 1/3 innings.
Kendrick allowed 10 hits, two of which were home runs, while walking two and striking out one. Both homers came in the second inning via Andre Ethier and Jimmy Rollins. The Dodgers then put on their first five batters against Kendrick in the sixth on four hits and an error en route to a six-run frame. Kendrick and Coors Field hasn't been a good match, as expected. He has an ugly 6.55 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, and 32/22 K/BB ratio in 66 innings. Kendrick will face the Marlins at home in his next start.
Joc Pederson went 1-for-6, but his one hit was a big one -- a three-run home run, helping the Dodgers beat the Rockies on Monday.
Pederson struck the big blow in the Dodgers' six-run sixth inning, ripping a three-run home run off of Christian Friedrich. He's homered in back-to-back games, something he has already done four times this season. He has 14 four-baggers total along with 27 RBI and a .254/.380/.550 batting line.
Andre Ethier tripled and hit a solo home run in six at-bats Monday as the Dodgers took down the Rockies.
Ethier started the scoring with a solo home run off of Kyle Kendrick in the second inning. He tripled and scored in the sixth as well. While we're inclined to discredit the performance since it was against Kyle Kendrick at Coors Field, it's not like Ethier hasn't been doing it all year. He's hitting .309/.395/.551 with seven home runs and 20 RBI.
Howie Kendrick went 2-for-6 with an RBI single and a three-run home run as the Dodgers handily defeated the Rockies on Monday.
Kendrick capped off the Dodgers' six-run sixth inning with an RBI single, then added three more runs with a home run in the eighth inning. It was his first home run since May 12. He has five total on the season along with 23 RBI and a .292/.349/.443 triple-slash line.
Giants released RHP J.C. Gutierrez.
Steve Adams of MLBTradeRumors.com says Gutierrez has exercised the opt-out clause in his contract. The 31-year-old has posted a 4.94 ERA with 21 strikeouts over 23 2/3 innings at Triple-A Sacramento this season. He should be able to latch on elsewhere pretty quickly.
Nolan Arenado went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Monday's loss to the Dodgers.
Arenado has now homered six times in his last eight games, giving him 13 on the season with 37 RBI and a .289/.330/.578. One could say he's seeing the ball well right now.
