Cubs pitching prospect Duane Underwood is headed to Chicago to undergo an MRI on his right elbow.

Underwood, who is arguably the team's pitching prospect with the most upside, felt discomfort in his last outing for High-A Myrtle Beach. "We’ll find out," general manager Jed Hoyer said. "He was really raw and young when we got him and he’s developed really well. He’s got great stuff. The nature of pitching is there’s going to be stops and starts."

Will Middlebrooks (ankle) grounded out as a pinch-hitter in Tuesday's loss to the Mariners.

Middlebrooks was removed from Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks with an ankle injury that occurred when he stepped on a bat in the on-deck circle. He's expected to avoid the disabled list.

Escobar was lifted from Sunday's game and was a late scratch Monday due to a split nail bed on his right index finger. He's expected to be fine.

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports that Jerry Dipoto is "definitely out" as the Angels general manager.

Crasnick says Dipoto went to owner Arte Moreno with an ultimatum, "and it backfired." FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal hears that Dipoto "packed up his office and left today," but it's not clear whether he "acted out of emotion" or if he's resigning. Dipoto and manager Mike Scioscia have long had a rocky relationship, and things reached a head after Rosenthal published an article earlier this week about the two's working relationship getting worse. We should hear something definitive on Dipoto later Wednesday.

Kenley Jansen allowed a run but still snagged his 12th save of the season as the Dodgers pulled out a 6-4 victory in 10 innings against the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.

With two outs, Jansen issued his first walk of the season to his 56th batter. Paul Goldschmidt then punished him for the walk with an RBI double. Jansen bounced back to strike out Yasmany Tomas to end the game. The right-hander is 12-for-13 in save chances this season with a 1.08 ERA and a 28/1 K/BB ratio in 16 2/3 innings.
Jul 1 - 2:00 AM

Rubby De La Rosa scattered two runs in 5 2/3 innings, but got a no-decision in Tuesday's 10-inning loss versus the Dodgers.

Both runs scored on a Yasmany Tomas home run in the second inning. De La Rosa allowed six hits and a walk overall while striking out seven. He's put together four terrific starts in a row now but still has a mediocre 4.60 ERA with a 1.24 WHIP and a 94/26 K/BB ratio in 101 2/3 innings. De La Rosa will look to keep it going when he faces the Rockies at home in his next start.
Jul 1 - 1:58 AM

Carlos Frias allowed three runs in five innings, getting a no-decision as the Dodgers needed 10 innings to fend off the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.

Frias gave up seven hits and walked three while striking out only one batter. Nick Ahmed struck the big blow in the fourth inning with a two-run home run. Things could've gone a lot worse for Frias. The young right-hander now owns a 4.39 ERA with a 1.55 WHIP and a 40/24 K/BB ratio in 69 2/3 innings. He'll have a decent match-up his next time out as he'll face the Phillies at home.
