Kyle Gibson held the Orioles to two runs over six innings, striking out seven, in a win Tuesday.

Gibson yielded six hits and a walk, with J.J. Hardy's two-run homer in the fifth inning accounting for all the damage against the right-hander. Gibson hasn't allowed more than two runs in any of his last four starts, and he improved to 7-6 with a 3.04 ERA and 1.24 WHIP with the win. He'll try to grab one more win before the All-Star break when he takes on the Tigers on Sunday.

John Jaso - DH - Rays

John Jaso homered, walked, and doubled in four plate appearances, but the Rays were unable to overcome the Royals in the second game of a doubleheader on Tuesday.

Jaso, making his first appearance since Opening Day, broke a scoreless tie in the third inning with a solo home run -- his first -- off of Edinson Volquez. The backstop had missed three-plus months with a bruised left wrist. He led off and served as the Rays' DH.
Jul 7 - 11:31 PM

Alcides Escobar went 2-for-4 with a walk and a three-run double in Tuesday's win in the second game of a doubleheader against the Rays.

Escobar cleared the bases in the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie, and he'd later score to add insult to injury for the Rays. The shortstop hasn't been anything special at the plate this season, batting .282/.323/.367 with 31 RBI and 40 runs scored.

Twins transferred RHP Ricky Nolasco from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Eric Fryer. Nolasco's season could be over after he had surgery on his right ankle on Monday.
Jul 7 - 11:28 PM

Alex Gordon went 4-for-5 with a double and four runs batted in as the Royals easily beat the Rays in the second game of a doubleheader on Tuesday.

Gordon tied the game at one apiece in the fifth inning with an RBI single, added another RBI single to cap off a four-run sixth, and knocked in two with a double in the eighth. Gordon entered the game batting .133 (4-for-30) in his previous nine games. On the season, he's sitting on 10 home runs with 37 RBI, 30 runs scored, and a .280/.394/.459 batting line.

Twins purchased the contract of C Eric Fryer from Triple-A Rochester.

Fryer has hit .299/.385/.354 with one homer at Rochester this season. He'll play sparingly as Kurt Suzuki's backup.
Jul 7 - 11:27 PM

Twins optioned C Chris Herrmann to Triple-A Rochester.

Herrmann hit just .156/.239/.281 over 25 games. The Twins will go with Eric Fryer as Kurt Suzuki's backup.

Roberto Osuna picked up his fourth save of the season Tuesday, pitching a scoreless ninth to secure the Blue Jays' 2-1 win over the White Sox.

Osuna gave up a hit but nothing more in the frame. The right-hander has asserted himself since taking over the closer role for the Jays, registering four saves since June 22 while allowing one run in seven innings of work. The 20-year-old now owns a 2.08 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 43/10 K/BB ratio over 39 innings on the year.
