James Loney (finger) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Tuesday with High-A Charlotte.

Loney, out since May 24 with a broken left middle finger, will DH in his return to game action. He has a good chance to return prior to the All-Star break.

Tigers OF prospect Steven Moya broke out of a 6-for-36 slump by belting two homers Monday in a win for Triple-A Toledo.

Both homers were solo shots. Moya now has 11 blasts in 277 at-bats this season. Unfortunately, he's also stuck out 95 times over that same stretch. It's doubtful Moya will ever hit for a high average in the major leagues but his raw power could be enough to earn a promotion later this season. The 23-year-old is No. 84 on MLB.com's top prospect list.

Rays signed first-round pick OF Garrett Whitley.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that Whitley will receive a $2,962,000 bonus, which is the full slot value for the No. 13 overall pick. The 18-year-old is a toolsy outfielder who should stick in center field as a pro.

Russell Martin is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Red Sox.

He's likely just getting a day off. Dioner Navarro will start behind the plate and catch Marco Estrada.

Josh Harrison is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Tigers.

He's likely just getting a breather. Jung Ho Kang will start at third base while Francisco Cervelli serves at the DH and Chris Stewart starts behind the plate.

Gregory Polanco will bat leadoff Tuesday against the Tigers.

Polanco took a seat Sunday against Braves left-hander Alex Wood, but he's back in there against right-hander Justin Verlander. The 23-year-old owns a .691 OPS against right-handers this season compared to a .301 OPS vs. southpaws.

Twins pitching prospect Taylor Rogers tossed seven innings of three-hit ball Monday in a win for Triple-A Rochester.

Monday's effort was a continuation of a game that began on June 5 but was suspended by rain. The left-hander is now 2-0 with a 2.63 ERA in four against Pawtucket this season. He's pitched at least seven innings in six of his last seven appearances. Rogers leads the International League with 103 1/3 innings pitched this season.

Yunel Escobar is in Tuesday's lineup against the Braves.

Escobar missed back-to-back games after he was hit on the hand by a pitch on Friday, but he was able to return for the second game of Sunday's doubleheader. The Nationals are surely hoping that he's feeling even better after Monday's scheduled off-day.
