Tyler Collins hit a two-run homer off the Orioles' Dylan Bundy on Thursday.

Collins didn't get much of a chance to win the center-field job this spring as he dealt with a strained lat muscle, but he does figure to play right field against right-handers while J.D. Martinez is out. How he performs there will determine whether he gets a shot in center after Martinez returns. He has a little AL-only value, but we're not expecting much. He finishes the spring with a .250/.273/.462 line.

Chris Dickerson hit his fourth spring homer in his lone at-bat off the bench Thursday against the Tigers.

In an alternate universe, a more durable Dickerson is finishing up his career as a decent regular corner outfielder and spending the next couple of years as a bench player before heading off to retirement. In this one, the soon-to-be 35-year-old has had more than 200 major league at-bats in a season just once (with the Reds in 2009) and hasn't played in the majors at all since 2014. He's had a nice spring, going 10-for-38 with a .996 OPS, but the Orioles aren't going to carry him and it's doubtful he'll soon wind up with a bench job elsewhere.

Indians released 1B/DH Wily Mo Pena.

Pena signed a minor league contract with the Indians in late January, but he always looked like a serious longshot to crack the Opening Day roster. The big 35-year-old slugger did not play professional baseball in 2016 after spending the 2015 season with the Rakuten Golden Eagles in Japan.

Cardinals placed LHP Tyler Lyons on the 10-day disabled list with a right knee injury.

Lyons is still working back from November surgery on his right knee. It sounds like he could be ready to join the Cardinals' bullpen around the end of April.

Cardinals placed RHP John Gant on the 10-day disabled list with a right groin strain.

Gant put up a 1.50 ERA in seven appearances this spring in the Grapefruit League, before straining his groin on March 25. The 24-year-old right-hander will probably join the starting rotation at Triple-A Memphis once he returns to full health.
Mar 30 - 3:04 PM

Cardinals placed RHP Alex Reyes on the 10-day disabled list with a right elbow injury.

Reyes underwent Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery in mid-February and will miss the entire 2017 season. The 22-year-old top pitching prospect will aim for a big breakout in 2018.

Cardinals recalled RHP Sam Tuivailala from Triple-A Memphis.

Tuivailala was optioned out of major league camp last week, but he's needed for the Opening Day roster now with Trevor Rosenthal still battling a right lat strain. Tuivailala, 24, owns a rough 5.47 ERA and 1.87 WHIP in 28 career appearances at the major league level. He'll be a low-leverage guy out of the bullpen.

Cardinals placed RHP Trevor Rosenthal on the 10-day disabled list with a right lat strain.

This is not a new injury for Rosenthal, but he hadn't been bothered by it for the last few weeks. Apparently there has been a setback. Sam Tuivailala has been recalled from the Triple-A roster and will open the 2017 season in the Cardinals' bullpen.
