Tyler Matzek had to leave Monday's outing versus the Diamondbacks with a left hamstring cramp.

It's probably the best-case scenario, as a cramp isn't nearly as bad as a strain. Consider Matzek day-to-day.

Fernando Rodney escaped ninth-inning danger to grab his fifth save as the Mariners earned a 3-1 victory over the Rangers on Monday.

The ninth inning, as they usually are with Rodney, was interesting. He allowed the Rangers to put the tying run on base with two outs following a single and a walk. Robinson Chirinos, however, flied out to center field to end the game. It hasn't been easy, but Rodney has put together five consecutive scoreless outings, but he still sports a poor 6.48 ERA and an 8/6 K/BB ratio in 8 1/3 innings. Rodney is 5-for-6 in save chances.

Yovani Gallardo fell to 2-3 after allowing three runs in six innings versus the Mariners on Monday.

The Mariners scored two runs in the first inning, one of which was aided with a throwing error by shortstop Elvis Andrus. Overall, it was a better outing than the box score indicated. Gallardo allowed three hits, walked three, and struck out five. He'll take a 4.05 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, and a 24/8 K/BB ratio in 26 2/3 innings into a start at home against the Athletics.

Shin-Soo Choo's offensive woes continued in Monday's loss to the Mariners, going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.

Choo entered the game hitless since April 19, carrying a paltry .459 OPS. The outfielder whiffed once against starter Taijuan Walker, then whiffed again to stunt a comeback effort in the ninth inning against closer Fernando Rodney. Choo has been bothered by a back issue, which might explain his issues at the plate.

Blue Jays placed SS Jose Reyes on the 15-day disabled list with a cracked rib.

Reyes attempted to play through a small fracture in his left rib cage, but the pain has evidently become too much. It's not clear at this point how long he might be sidelined. The Jays have called up Jonathan Diaz and figure to go with Ryan Goins as their primary shortstop while Reyes is on the shelf.

Taijuan Walker was dominant against the Rangers in a win on Monday, allowing just an unearned run in seven innings.

The unearned run scored in the fourth inning, when Brad Miller made a poor throw after fielding an Elvis Andrus grounder, which would have otherwise been an inning-ending out. Walker gave up six hits, walked one, and struck out five. The right-hander had racked up three mediocre starts to begin the season. Monday's outing lowers his ERA to 6.86. He's also carrying an abysmal 2.29 WHIP and a 19/11 K/BB ratio in 19 2/3 innings. Walker will look for continued success when he faces the Astros in Houston next.

Tyler Matzek exited Monday's start against the Diamondbacks with an apparent injury.

Matzek signaled for the Rockies' trainer to come to the mound after he delivered his first pitch of the sixth inning and then eventually walked off the field. He appeared to be favoring his leg, but we'll have to wait and see what the Rockies say about the injury. Matzek allowed two runs over five frames before exiting.

Joakim Soria worked around a leadoff single to earn his eighth save of the season, helping the Tigers take down the Twins 5-4 on Monday.

Jordan Schafer led off with a single to left-center, then moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt. Soria, however, bounced back to strike out Brian Dozier and induce a game-ending 5-3 ground out from Torii Hunter to end the contest. Soria is 8-for-8 in save chances with a 1.86 ERA and a 6/1 K/BB ratio in 9 2/3 innings.
