Johnny Cueto held the Twins to just one run over eight innings while striking out eight in a 2-1 victory Wednesday.

Brian Dozier came around to score after smacking a leadoff double down the left-field line in the sixth inning, but that's all the Twins were able to scrape together against Cueto. In six starts since returning from an elbow issue, Cueto boasts a 2.52 ERA and 40/8 K/BB ratio over 39 1/3 innings. In other words, he's looked like his normal self. The righty takes on the Nationals on the road next.

Cardinals OF prospect Harrison Bader launched two homers Tuesday in his debut for Low-A State College.

He went 2-for-4 with three RBI. A third-round pick out of the University of Florida, Bader hit .348 with two homers and five RBI in last month's College World Series. His contract came with a $400,000 signing bonus.

Rick Porcello was hammered for seven earned runs over two innings Wednesday in a loss to the Blue Jays.

Porcello yielded five runs in the first inning and two more in the second in another awful outing. The 26-year-old right-hander now has a 6.08 ERA and 1.40 WHIP over his first 16 starts with the Red Sox. He is not looking anything like a $20 million per year pitcher.

Michael Cuddyer (knee) isn't expected to require a trip to the disabled list.

Cuddyer had to leave Tuesday's game with a left knee injury, but an MRI apparently didn't show any serious damage. The Mets think he'll only have to sit out a few days.

Yankees OF prospect Aaron Judge mashed four hits Tuesday for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

It was his first career four-hit game. Tuesday also marked Judge's first career start in center field. The 2013 first-round pick has hit .276 in 29 at-bats since getting called up from Double-A Trenton. At 6'7 and 275 pounds, the 23-year-old has power written all over him.

Addison Russell is not in the Cubs' lineup Wednesday.

He's just receiving a day off. Jonathan Herrera is at second base while Russell rests.

Twins optioned DH Kennys Vargas to Double-A Chattanooga.

Vargas had one hit in three at-bats on Wednesday, pushing up his season line to a still-awful .245/.277/.365. The Twins will not announce a corresponding roster move until Thursday, but there's been speculation that they could call up Miguel Sano.

Trevor May suffered a loss despite a nice effort Wednesday, yielding just two runs -- one earned -- over 6 1/3 innings versus the Reds.

May might have been pitching for his spot in the rotation and showed well, allowing six hits and three walks while recording six strikeouts. It was a much-needed bounce-back effort from the right-hander after he failed to make it out of the first inning in his last outing. Ervin Santana will join the rotation on Sunday, and May might be the likely to be demoted despite today's effort. If he sticks around, he'll face the Orioles next week.
