Reds placed OF Marlon Byrd on the 15-day disabled list with a fracture in his right wrist.

Byrd suffered the injury Tuesday when he was struck by a pitch. He's had previous fractures in the same area and the Reds are still trying to figure out how much time he will miss. Brennan Boesch and Skip Schumaker will likely share playing time in left field.

Red Sox transferred RHP Brandon Workman from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move clears a 40-man roster spot for outfielder Alejandro De Aza, who was acquired from the Orioles on Wednesday. Workman is trying to rehab a torn right elbow ligament. He began a throwing program in late May.

Red Sox acquired OF Alejandro De Aza and cash considerations from the Orioles for RHP Joe Gunkel.

De Aza was designated for assignment by the O's last week after opening the season with a rough .214/.277/.359 batting line in 30 games. He seems doubtful to get much playing time in the crowded Boston outfield. Baltimore was paying him $5 million this season.

Orioles acquired RHP Joe Gunkel from the Red Sox for OF Alejandro De Aza and cash considerations.

Gunkel had registered a decent 2.90 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, and 44/12 K/BB ratio in 40 1/3 innings this season between High-A Salem and Double-A Portland. The 23-year-old right-hander is a pretty nice get for the O's considering they had designated De Aza for assignment.

Jordan Lyles needs season-ending surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left big toe.

The procedure -- basically a Tommy John surgery for the toe -- is scheduled for June 10 in Denver. Lyles, 24, finishes the 2015 season with a 2-5 record, 5.14 ERA, 1.49 WHIP, and 30/19 K/BB ratio in 49 innings. Chris Rusin looks like the primary candidate to replace him in the Rockies' starting rotation.

Hanley Ramirez is not in the Red Sox lineup for the second half of Wednesday's doubleheader.

Hanley went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in the first game, but he will be given some rest during the nightcap. Carlos Peguero is starting in left field as the Red Sox try to sweep the twin-billing from the Twins.

Jason Castro (knee) is back in the Astros' starting lineup on Wednesday versus the Orioles.

Castro took a ball off his right knee Monday, but he only suffered some mild swelling. "Woke up yesterday actually feeling better and then today even better than that," Castro told the Houston Chronicle on Wednesday. "So I’m pretty happy with kind of the way it’s going so far based on the way it could've been."
Jun 3 - 5:04 PM

J.J. Hardy (side) is out of the Orioles' lineup for a third straight game on Wednesday night.

An MRI taken Tuesday on Hardy's sore left side ruled out an oblique strain, but the O's are going to give him at least one more day of rest. Ryan Flaherty is starting at shortstop Wednesday night against the Astros.
