Michael Kirkman (shoulder) is not yet symptom-free and remains limited to flat-ground work.

Kirkman is dealing with an impingement in his left shoulder. That he's able to do any throwing at all is obviously positive, but the Rangers will feel better about his status once he's able to throw from the bump again with no problems.

Luis Cruz (hand) will resume throwing off a mound on Tuesday.

Cruz jammed his hand trying to field a ground ball during pitcher's fielding practice on Friday, forcing him to miss a few days of work. He'll be fine, but the lefty is not expected to crack the Opening Day roster.

Jose Iglesias (shins) played one inning in the field Monday in the Tigers' exhibition game against Florida Southern.

Iglesias, who missed the entire 2014 season with stress fractures in both of his shins recorded one put-out on a pop-up and grounded out in his lone at-bat. It wasn't much, but he was thrilled. "I was really excited to get back on the field," said Iglesias. "Really happy." He's not feeling any soreness so far, but the Tigers plan to take it easy with him early in the spring. He's slated to return to the lineup Wednesday against the Orioles.

Carlos Martinez will start the Cardinals' Grapefruit League opener Thursday against the Marlins.

Martinez is expected to throw around 40 pitches, which the Cardinals hope will be enough for him to finish two innings. The 23-year-old right-hander aims to secure the fifth spot in the starting rotation this spring and should be relevant in mixed fantasy leagues if he gets it. He'll hope to get off on the right foot Thursday.

Yankees assistant general manager Billy Eppler said Monday that the team is still gathering information regarding a shoulder injury to prospect catcher Luis Torrens.

Some reports have suggested that Torrens could miss the entire 2015 season, but Eppler isn't ready to go that far yet. The 18-year-old missed two months last season with a shoulder issue. He's very young, but a significant absence would be a tough blow for his development. Torrens owns a .249/.338/.347 batting line over his first 109 games in pro ball and has thrown out 41 percent of attempted basestealers. He was recently ranked as the organization's No. 9 prospect by Baseball America.

Alex Rodriguez will make his Grapefruit League debut Wednesday against the Phillies.

The Yankees will open their exhibition schedule on Tuesday against the Phillies in Clearwater, but A-Rod won't make the trip. He's expected to be the designated hitter on Wednesday and receive two or three at-bats. It will be his first game action since September of 2013.

Victor Martinez (knee) ran on the anti-gravity treadmill and took 30 swings off a tee from both sides of the plate on Monday.

Martinez arrived at Tigers' camp on Monday morning and didn't waste any time doing his first workout. The veteran slugger underwent surgery on February 10 to repair the medial meniscus in his left knee and will have a late start in spring training, but the Tigers are confident he'll get enough at-bats to be ready for the season.
Mar 2 - 4:12 PM

James McCann doubled in a run and walked in his two plate appearances Monday as the Tigers topped Florida Southern 12-2.

McCann is bidding to overtake Bryan Holaday to become the Tigers' No. 2 catcher this year. There is the chance both could make the team if either Miguel Cabrera or Victor Martinez starts off on the DL, since Alex Avila would probably be asked to play some first base in that scenario.
