The Promise of Youth
A few older closers are still making it work, but the promise of youth is too much to ignore, in your pens, and in your lineups.

Yankees recalled RHP Shane Greene from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Greene will be the Yankees' 26th man for the second half of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Cubs. The reliever will be optioned back to Triple-A after the game.

Cubs recalled LHP Zach Rosscup from Triple-A Iowa.

Rosscup will serve as the Cubs' 26th man for the second half of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Yankees. He'll function as left-handed relief depth.
Apr 16 - 4:33 PM

Joe Kelly has been diagnosed with a left hamstring strain and is headed back to St. Louis for further tests.

Kelly suffered the injury Wednesday while trying to beat out a groundball to first base. He is likely to be placed on the 15-day disabled list, and the Cardinals will now have to dip into some of their starting pitching depth. Carlos Martinez could be an option, but Tyler Lyons started for Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday and is probably the more logical short-term fill-in candidate because Martinez has been making appearances in a major league setup role.
Apr 16 - 4:30 PM

Drew Smyly will start Friday against the Angels.

Smyly has been limited to bullpen appearances so far due to off-days and rain postponements. The 24-year-old left-hander owns a 3.18 career ERA and 1.15 career WHIP in the majors, and remains an exciting fantasy sleeper.

George Springer is batting second in his major league debut on Wednesday night against the Royals.

Houston will throw the ultra-talented young outfielder right into the fire. Springer was batting .353/.459/.647 with three home runs in 13 games this year at Triple-A Oklahoma City and is a must-have in all standard fantasy leagues. The 24-year-old compiled a .959 OPS, 65 homers, 85 steals, and 207 RBI in 284 minor league games.
Apr 16 - 4:23 PM

Wily Peralta held the Cardinals to one run over 6 1/3 innings in Wednesday's 5-1 Brewers win.

The dominant performance pushed Milwaukee to an 11-4 record and a two-game lead over the Cardinals in the National League Central standings. Peralta had his sinker and slider working, fanning three batters and scattering six hits over his 6 1/3 frames. He issued just one walk. The 24-year-old right-hander will bring a 2-0 record and 1.96 ERA into his next start at home against the Padres. That's a juicy fantasy matchup.
Apr 16 - 4:19 PM

Aramis Ramirez finished 3-for-4 with an RBI in the Brewers' win over the Cardinals on Wednesday.

A-Ram's big day helped the Brewers avoid a three-game sweep and remain atop the National League Central standings with an 11-4 record. The veteran third baseman is off to a scorching start this season, batting .377 with a .905 OPS and 13 RBI in 15 games played.
Apr 16 - 4:16 PM

Allen Craig hit his first home run of the season in the Cardinals' loss to the Brewers on Wednesday.

It gave the Cardinals their only run of the afternoon. Craig began the season in a bad funk, but he's making better contact lately and should soon begin racking up RBI with great regularity in a loaded St. Louis lineup.
