Tommy Joseph went 2-for-3 and scored a run against the Red Sox on Saturday.

He missed a few games after getting hit in the hand with a pitch last week. He is batting .260 with two longballs in 50 spring at-bats. He will be the Phillies starting first baseman this year after sharing time at the position with Ryan Howard last year. Joseph hit .257/.308/.505 with 21 home runs and 47 RBI in 347 plate appearances in 2016.
Mar 25 - 5:50 PM

Alec Asher started versus the Red Sox on Saturday and allowed two runs in three innings.

He now owns an unwieldy 7.80 ERA across 15 innings this spring. The 25-year-old was destined for the Triple-A rotation regardless of his results in camp and he hasn't done anything to change management's mind. He started five games for the Phillies last year and notched a 2.28 ERA with 13 strikeouts in 27 2/3 innings.

Shae Simmons (forearm) hasn't advanced to mound work yet.

Simmons has played catch the past few days while building up his arm strength. The right-hander strained his forearm about two weeks ago and won't be ready for Opening Day. He'll be a middle relief option for the Mariners when healthy.
Mar 25 - 5:44 PM

Jackie Bradley Jr. went 2-for-3 and drilled a solo home run against the Phillies on Saturday.

He is rounding into form as the regular season approaches and now has a .244 batting average with three home runs in Grapefruit League play. The Red Sox starting centerfielder broke out last year with a .267 batting average, 26 home runs, 94 runs scored, 87 RBI and nine stolen bases.
Mar 25 - 5:40 PM

Tony Zych (biceps) will make his Cactus League debut Sunday against the Reds.

Zych got a late start this spring following a lengthy recovery from offseason biceps surgery. He's expected to pitch one inning on Sunday. Assuming he comes out of Sunday's outing unscathed, Zynch should be ready for Opening Day.
Mar 25 - 5:38 PM

Kyle Kendrick gave up two runs on eight hits in six innings as the Red Sox and Phillies played to a 3-3 tie on Saturday.

He punched out six batters without issuing a free pass. Kendrick has been nails this spring, recording a 2.17 ERA through 29 innings of work. He is still likely ticketed to start the season in the Triple-A rotation. The 32-year-old veteran spent all of last season in the Angels' minor league system and last pitched in the majors in 2015, going 7-13 with a 6.32 ERA for the Rockies.
Mar 25 - 5:35 PM

Collin Cowgill (rib) is back in the lineup for Saturday's Cactus League game against the Giants.

Cowgill is back after sitting out two weeks with tightness in his left rib cage. A non-roster invitee, Cowgill is hoping to crack the Opening Day roster as the Padres' fourth outfielder.
Mar 25 - 5:34 PM

Nationals optioned C Pedro Severino to Triple-A Syracuse.

Brian Goodwin, Matt Grace and Rafael Martin are also headed to Syracuse while Emmanuel Burriss has been reassigned to minor league camp. Severino was up with the Nationals a bit last season while Wilson Ramos was out with a torn ACL. This year the Nats are going with Matt Wieters and Jose Lobaton behind the plate.
