Titans signed DE Jurrell Casey to a four-year, $36 million contract extension through 2018.
It includes $20.5 million guaranteed and makes Casey the highest-paid player on the Titans roster. $9 million annually is a lot of dough to shell out. Casey is now the second-highest-paid 3-4 end in football in terms of annual average behind Calais Campbell's $11 million. Casey had a career-year in 2013, racking up 10.5 sacks and 55 tackles. That was as a penetrating one-gap defensive tackle in a 4-3. For the sake of the Titans, we hope new DC Ray Horton will allow Casey to push the pocket instead of playing two-gap.
Free agent K Garrett Hartley worked out for the Titans on Wednesday.
The Titans seem poised to sign a new kicker. Hartley joined experienced veterans Jay Feely and Rian Lindell at the Titans workout.
ESPN Texans reporter Tania Ganguli believes S Shiloh Keo's roster spot is in danger.
Keo started 11 games at free safety for the Texans last season, registering 63 tackles and six pass breakups. He's appeared in 42 career games since being a 2011 fifth-round pick. The Texans upgraded their safety position in free agency, signing Chris Clemons and Kendrick Lewis to team with D.J. Swearinger.
Cowboys claimed DB Jemea Thomas off waivers from the Patriots.
Thomas was the 206th overall pick in May's draft. Coach Bill Belichick called Thomas a four-down player when the Patriots drafted him. He was expected to contribute heavily on special teams. Thomas can play safety and corner.
Packers RBs coach Sam Gash believes Eddie Lacy is capable of leading the league in rushing and total yards.
While Lacy might not be the favorite, he's one of a handful of contenders. He's been dominant this preseason across just 21 offensive snaps, rushing for 61 yards and one touchdown on 11 carries while breaking six tackles. Lacy's also caught two balls for 22 yards. In Aaron Rodgers' starts last season, Lacy averaged 99 yards rushing on 23 carries per game. He's an easy top-five pick.
Cardinals signed DT Tommy Kelly.
Kelly, entering his age-34 season, was cut by the Patriots on Sunday. Once a strong interior pass rusher with the Raiders, Kelly is trying to come back from a torn ACL. He'll try and earn a roster spot before final cuts on Saturday.
Christine Michael missed practice Wednesday with a hamstring injury and won't play in the preseason finale.
The Seahawks re-signed RB Demitrius Bronson to carry some of the load Thursday. Michael's preseason ends with 23 carries for 89 yards (3.9 YPC) and one score. He also caught seven balls for 56 yards and another TD. Despite the strong preseason, Michael is still No. 3 on the depth chart.
Daniel Thomas (hamstring) will play in the Dolphins' preseason finale.
He better. Thomas is on the roster bubble. He's missed most of camp and the first three preseason games with a balky hamstring. Thomas is competing with UDFAs Damien Williams and Orleans Darkwa for the No. 3 job. No longer on scholarship under ex-GM Jeff Ireland, Thomas needs to turn heads Thursday.
