Braves agreed to terms with 31st overall pick RHP Jason Hursh.

No word yet on the financials. Hursh was selected with the compensation pick that the Braves received for losing Michael Bourn to free agency. The 21-year-old sinkerballer posted a 2.79 ERA and 86/28 K/BB ratio in 106 1/3 innings this season for Oklahoma State.

Ichiro Suzuki went 3-for-4 with a solo homer and three RBI in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Yankees.

Ichiro has done his best work against lefties this year, but the homer off Hyun-Jin Ryu today was his first off a southpaw. He's batting .326 in 52 at-bats this month. He's also 4-for-5 stealing bases, with the one caught stealing coming on a bad call.

Hanley Ramirez went 4-for-4 and hit a two-run homer as the Dodgers' designated hitter in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader.

The availability of the DH in New York this week was well timed for Hanley, who is still dealing with a balky hamstring. No word yet on whether he'll play the field, DH again or sit in the nightcap versus the Yankees.

Chris Davis crushed his 25th and 26th home runs Wednesday as the Orioles pounded the Tigers 13-3.

Both were two-run shots; he had one off Rick Porcello in the fourth and another off Jose Valverde in the ninth. He also mixed in a ground-rule double, giving him five RBI on the day. After going eight games without an RBI earlier this month, Davis has come back with six homers and 14 RBI in his last eight games. He's also overtaken Miguel Cabrera for the AL lead in OPS.

Rick Porcello was tagged for six runs in six innings by the Orioles in a loss Wednesday.

Coming off four straight excellent starts, Porcello appeared on the way to another nice outing today, at least until the fourth. He gave up all six runs and seven hits in that frame before coming back with perfect fifth and sixth innings afterwards. One bad innings doesn't necessarily mean that his strong run is over, but it does put a damper on things. Fortunately, he'll miss the Red Sox this weekend and get the Angels next time out.

Nick Swisher (shoulder) is expected to return to the Indians' starting lineup this Saturday.

That's contingent on a batting practice session going well on Friday. Swisher hasn't placed since last Saturday because of a sore left shoulder. He was given a cortisone injection to treat the discomfort earlier this week and is apparently feeling much better.
Jun 19 - 4:47 PM

Mopping up against the Orioles, Jose Valverde gave up four runs and five hits in the ninth Wednesday.

The Tigers were already down 9-3, so Valverde's showing didn't hurt the team. It did, however, demonstrate once again why he's a really hard guy to trust. When Chris Davis took him deep today, it upped his total to six homers allowed in 19 1/3 innings.

Tigers optioned OF Avisail Garcia to Triple-A Toledo.

Garcia was up in the bigs for only a few days this time around. The 22-year-old outfielder has a .279/.315/.441 batting line in 25 major league games this season.
