Athletics activated OF Chris Young from the 15-day disabled list.

May 18 - 3:43 PM

Athletics designated 1B Daric Barton for assignment.

Barton is batting just .143 (3-for-21) in eight games with Oakland this season. He's doubtful to draw any interest on waivers and should return as organizational depth at Triple-A Sacramento.
May 18 - 3:37 PM

Blue Jays promoted prospect right-hander John Stilson to Triple-A Buffalo.

The Blue Jays are currently using Ramon Ortiz in their starting rotation, so it's possible that Stilson could eventually become an option if he can prove he's healthy. The 22-year-old spent the first month of the season on the minor league DL, but earned the promotion by posting a 3.86 ERA in two appearances at Double-A New Hampshire. Given his history of shoulder injuries, Stilson may ultimately have to settle for a bullpen role.
May 18 - 3:36 PM

Astros activated 2B Jose Altuve from the bereavement list.

Altuve has been out since Tuesday following the death of a family member. He was also dealing with a jaw injury during his time off, but he's now ready to return to the Astros' lineup.
May 18 - 3:08 PM

Astros optioned INF Jacob Elmore to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Elmore appeared in three games during his brief callup. He's no longer needed with Jose Altuve returning from the disabled list.
May 18 - 3:02 PM

Josh Hamilton has been scratched from Saturday's lineup against the White Sox.

No word yet on the reason for his absence, but Hamilton has been playing through an illness for the last two weeks. Mark Trumbo is starting in his place in right field.
May 18 - 2:54 PM

Carlos Zambrano threw two scoreless innings and had five strikeouts Saturday in extended spring training.

The Phillies' current plan calls for Zambrano to pitch in another extended spring game next week before possibly sending him to a minor league affiliate. He was able to throw 44 pitches Saturday and will continue to be stretched out as a starter. Zambrano will be an option for the Phillies' rotation at some point this season.
May 18 - 2:48 PM

Angels designated OF Scott Cousins for assignment.

The Angels claimed Chris Nelson off waivers, so it's just a move to open a spot on the 40-man roster. Cousins should go through waivers unclaimed and remain in the organization.
