Adam Lind (foot) could begin a rehab assignment early- to mid-next week.

He should only need a few rehab games before being activated. Lind is expected to beat Edwin Encarnacion (quad) back from the disabled list. He's been out since early July with a non-displaced fracture in his right foot.

Brett Lawrie (finger) will begin a rehab assignment at High-A Dunedin on Friday.

Lawrie is expected to be there for at least a week and will play both third and second base before the club makes a decision on where to put him once activated. He's been out since late June with a fractured right index finger.
Aug 1 - 5:57 PM

Jon Jay is not in Friday's lineup due to a sore wrist.

It explains why Peter Bourjos is getting a rare start versus a right-hander Friday. Jay's ailment looks to be a day-to-day situation, so expect him back in there sometime over the weekend.
Aug 1 - 5:45 PM

Matt Cain (elbow) is expected to undergo season-ending surgery.

Reports had indicated earlier that he would hold off for now in a long shot hope to pitch later this season, but it sounds like he'll go under the knife soon. Cain has dealt with bone chips in his right elbow for 10 years and it's finally causing enough pain to where he can't pitch. The rehab will last three months, so he'll be fine for spring training next season.
Aug 1 - 5:43 PM

John Lackey will make his Cardinals' debut on Sunday versus the Brewers.

That means he won't have to face the Red Sox next week. The Cardinals will push Lance Lynn back a couple days to face Boston on Tuesday.
Aug 1 - 5:37 PM

Michael Saunders (oblique) is not ready to begin a rehab assignment.

Saunders' progress from a strained left oblique has been slow, as he still can't swing a bat at 100 percent. He'll be re-evaluated on Monday.
Aug 1 - 5:36 PM

Ricky Nolasco (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment at Low-A Cedar Rapids next week.

It's not clear which day he'll make his first rehab start, but Nolasco will need two outings before rejoining the Twins' rotation. Nolasco has been out since early July with flexor pronator stiffness but has progressed well recently.
Aug 1 - 5:35 PM

Joe Mauer (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment next week at Low-A Cedar Rapids.

It's not clear which day the assignment will begin. Mauer took batting practice on the field without incident Wednesday and is nearly ready for game action. He could be ready for activation by the end of next week if all goes well.
