Zack Cozart returned to the Reds starting lineup on Friday, going 0-for-3 with a strikeout in a loss to the Nationals.

Cozart had been sidelined since leaving Tuesday's game after he was hit by a pitch. He was dropped back to eighth in the lineup for this contest, which given his atrocious .225/.276/.293 slash line on the season is probably still too high.

Pedro Alvarez (knee) appeared as a pinch hitter in Friday's loss to the Rockies, going 0-for-1 with a walk in his two plate appearances.

The most encouraging sign was that he remained in the game to play third base after he hit for Brent Morel in the seventh inning. Expect the slugger to return to the starting lineup on Saturday.

Hector Sanchez was diagnosed with a mild concussion after leaving Friday's game.

Sanchez was hurt when he took a foul tip off his mask. He'll probably go on the seven-day DL prior to Saturday's game, with either Guillermo Quiroz or Andrew Susac replacing him on the roster.

Yasiel Puig went 4-for-5 and became the first player in four years to triple three times in a game Friday as the Dodgers topped the Giants 8-0.

The Twins' Denard Span was the last player with three triples in a game, doing so against the Tigers on June 29, 2010. The next to last was Rafael Furcal in 2002. Before that, it was Lance Johnson in 1995. So, obviously, it's a very rare feat. In fact, no Dodger had done it since at least 1901. Puig now has eight triples this year, leaving him two behind teammate Dee Gordon (who also had one tonight) for the major league lead.
