Astros acquired RHP Francis Martes from the Marlins in the Jarred Cosart deal.

Martes, 18, is a lottery ticket for the Astros. The righty holds a 3.74 ERA with 64 strikeouts over 79 1/3 innings in rookie ball and is obviously a long ways away from the majors.

Astros acquired 3B Colin Moran from the Marlins in the Jarred Cosart deal.

The Astros nearly took Moran with the first overall pick in the 2013 draft and now they end up getting him barely over a year later. Moran has hit .295/.346/.408 with just nine homers over his first 131 professional games, but Houston obviously thinks he could become a productive regular at third base in time.
Jul 31 - 4:59 PM

Astros acquired OF Jake Marisnick, 3B Colin Moran, RHP Frances Martes and a 2015 compensation pick from the Marlins in exchange for RHP Jarred Cosart, INF Enrique Hernandez and OF Austin Wates.

Marisnick had been at Triple-A but will report to the Astros' big league club. The 23-year-old has hit just .178/.226/.223 over his first 54 big league games, but he has power and speed upside and should be a fixture in the Astros' outfield for years.
Jul 31 - 4:56 PM

Diamondbacks C Peter O’Brien and either a player to be named later or cash from the Yankees for 3B Martin Prado.

O'Brien, recently named New York's No. 9 prospect by MLB.com, has blasted an impressive 33 home runs this season on the farm. So why isn't he ranked higher? Firstly, O'Brien's pitch recognition must improve -- he has a ridiculous .555 slugging percentage at Double-A, and a sickly .296 OPS. Will he be able to make consistent contact against the world's best pitchers? He's also is a poor defensive catcher who doesn't have the speed to project into the outfield, meaning first base is his only realistic option if the receiving doesn't improve ASAP.
Jul 31 - 4:56 PM

Marlins acquired OF Austin Wates from the Astros in the Jarred Cosart deal.

A 2010 third-round pick, Wates sports a .303/.381/.415 batting line over five minor league seasons. He doesn't have any power but can run and play all three outfield spots. Wates has hit .299/.396/.381 at Triple-A this year.
Jul 31 - 4:52 PM

Yankees acquired 3B Martin Prado from the Diamondbacks for C Peter O’Brien and either a player to be named later or cash.

New York buys low on a formerly rock-solid veteran batting just .270/.317/.370 with five homers this season. Over a nine-year career, spent between the Braves and Snakes, Prado is a career .290 hitter with a .340 OBP. Prado can play all over the place -- with first base, second base, third base, shortstop, leftfield and rightfield on his resume -- but he's likely to get most of his at-bats in the outfield with a Yankees team that has Chase Headley at third and Stephen Drew at second. Because of that, this trade is bad news for Ichiro Suzuki's fantasy value. What was left of it, anyway.
Jul 31 - 4:51 PM

Marlins acquired INF/OF Enrique Hernandez from the Astros in the Jarred Cosart deal.

Hernandez, 22, sported a nice .284/.348/.420 batting line over 24 games for the Astros and will give the Marlins another option at second base and in the outfield. He profiles as a super utility player.
Jul 31 - 4:50 PM

Marlins acquired RHP Jarred Cosart, INF/OF Enrique Hernandez and OF Austin Wates from the Astros in exchange for OF Jake Marisnick, 3B Colin Moran, RHP Frances Martes and a 2015 compensation pick.

Cosart has posted a 3.57 ERA over his first 30 major league starts and is under control for a few more years, but his 4.13 FIP and 1.42 WHIP suggests that a regression is coming. He will at least get to pitch in a very pitcher-friendly park but isn't much of a fantasy option with his low strikeout rate.
