Giants signed INF Pablo Sandoval to a minor league contract.

The Red Sox granted his official release on Friday and now Sandoval returns to the one place he has had considerable big league success. It shouldn't be long before he's an option for the Giants.

Gregory Polanco is considered day-to-day after leaving Friday's game with left hamstring discomfort.

The issue doesn't appear to be major, but it wouldn't be a huge surprise to see him get an extra day of rest on Saturday to be on the safe side. The 25-year-old outfielder is hitting .268/.322/.425 with nine homers, 28 RBI and eight stolen bases on the season.

Diamondbacks recalled LHP Anthony Banda from Triple-A Reno.

The 23-year-old southpaw will make his big league debut on Saturday against the Nationals. While he's talented, he owns a troublesome 5.08 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 93/43 K/BB ratio across 101 innings at Triple-A Reno. He should be avoided for his debut against a hard-hitting Nationals' squad.

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports that at least six clubs have expressed interest in Marlins' closer A.J. Ramos.

Heyman notes that the Diamondbacks, Rockies, Rays, Red Sox, Brewers and Cubs are among the many clubs interested in acquiring the Marlins' right-hander. The 30-year-old owns a 4.08 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 45/19 K/BB ratio across 35 1/3 innings on the season.

Diamondbacks signed RHP David Carpenter to a minor league contract.

The 32-year-old hurler hasn't appeared in the big leagues since the 2015 season. After getting released by the Rays near the end of spring training, he latched on with Bridgeport in the Independent Atlantic League. There, he compiled a 1.91 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 45/12 K/BB ratio across 37 2/3 innings. He'll add bullpen depth for the D'Backs.

Kelvin Herrera allowed a hit and a walk, but managed to work a scoreless ninth inning on Friday against the White Sox.

Herrera admitted after his blown save on Wednesday that he's still dealing with an illness, and still didn't look sharp in this one. The Royals' closer owns an uninspiring 4.62 ERA and 1.30 WHIP this season.

Charlie Blackmon (quad/hamstring) went 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in his return to the Rockies' lineup on Friday.

Blackmon had left Wednesday's game due to minor cramping in his leg, but appears to be good to go. He's having an outstanding season, slashing .327/.382/.610 with 23 homers, 67 RBI and eight swipes.

Carson Kelly delivered a two-run double Friday in the Cardinals' victory over the Cubs.

Making an emergency start following his promotion after Yadier Molina (ankle) was a late scratch, Kelly nearly had his first big league homer and grand slam as part of the Cards' nine-run eighth inning when he doubled off the wall. It was his only hit of the day in five trips to the plate, although he had a deep flyout in his final at-bat. Kelly could potentially get another start Saturday if Molina is still not feeling great and he'll surely wind up playing more than previous backup Eric Fryer did. However, it's hard to see him producing fantasy value unless Yadi suffers an injury that requires a disabled list stint.
