Rangers acquired LHP Michael Roth from the Cubs for cash considerations.

Roth has posted a 3.03 ERA and 23/15 K/BB ratio across 29 2/3 innings at the Triple-A level, making five starts at two relief appearances. He last appeared in the majors in 2016 with the Rangers and will be assigned to Triple-A Round Rock to provide depth.

Rangers released RHP Kevin Jepsen.

Jepsen refused an outright assignment after clearing waivers, instead choosing to look for a gig elsewhere. He held a 5.94 ERA and ugly 8/11 K/BB ratio over 16 2/3 relief innings with the Rangers.

Troy Tulowitzki (heels) has been cleared to run.

Tulowitzki had been running on an anti-gravity treadmill but is now ready to run on regular ground. It's obviously good news, but Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said Friday that it's "probably a ways away still" before the shortstop will be ready to return. He's been out all season following surgery on both heels to remove bone spurs.

Specialist Dr. Susan Mackinnon has ruled out peripheral nerve involvement for Matt Shoemaker (forearm) after she examined the pitcher this week.

Shoemaker underwent a second MRI, which showed mild edema in his right forearm. He also had a bone scan. Basically, the Angels are putting him through a battery of tests to try to figure out why his progress from a forearm injury has stalled. He's out indefinitely.

Matt Davidson (back) is hoping to return to the White Sox' lineup Saturday.

Davidson is out of the lineup for the third straight day Friday because of back stiffness, but he said he's feeling "much better." He will try to swing a bat Friday before hopefully returning to action Saturday.
May 25 - 4:36 PM

Greg Bird (knee) will be activated from the disabled list Saturday.

Things had been pointing that way and Yankees manager Aaron Boone made it official Friday. Bird has been sidelined all season following March ankle surgery but is ready to roll after playing 12 rehab games. He should see the lion's share of playing time at first base moving forward.
May 25 - 4:33 PM

Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Friday that he may now be willing to use Blake Swihart at catcher.

It's a course reversal from what the skipper had said previously. Cora said that the team had been expecting Swihart to lose his roster spot when Dustin Pedroia came off the DL, but now that they know he's going to be around a while longer they want to use him more often. Swihart has made just four starts this season and they were all in the designated hitter spot.
May 25 - 4:28 PM

Miguel Cabrera (hamstring) did some light straight-line running on the warning track Friday.

Cabrera also took batting practice again. He's nearing a return to the Tigers' lineup and might not need a rehab assignment, but he'll need to run the bases and show he can do some quick bursts before being cleared. The slugger has missed most of May with a strained right hamstring and has also dealt with some soreness in his hips and back.
