Diamondbacks activated LHP Patrick Corbin (elbow) from the 60-day disabled list.
Corbin didn't pitch past the sixth inning in any of his rehab starts and we wouldn't expect him to Saturday against the Rockies. The 25-year-old was an All-Star in 2013 but struggled down the stretch with a 5.19 ERA over his last 13 starts. Fantasy owners should use a wait and see approach with the young left-hander.
Diamondbacks activated C Oscar Hernandez (hand) from the 60-day disabled list.
Hernandez sat out three months with a broken hamate bone in his left hand. Manager Chip Hale said he'll "pick his spots" when inserting Hernandez into the lineup. He'll backup Jarrod Saltalamacchia Saturday against the Rockies.
Carlos Gonzalez is not in the Rockies' lineup Saturday against the Diamondbacks.
Patrick Corbin is pitching for Arizona and Gonzalez is batting just .161 against left-handers this year. Drew Stubbs will start in left field and bat sixth. Since blowing up for five hits against San Francisco on June 27, Gonzalez has gone just 3-for-28 with six strikeouts.
Cubs designated RHP Gonzalez Germen for assignment.
Germen posted a 3.78 ERA in 24 relief outings for Triple-A Iowa and also had a brief stint with the Cubs in April. The 27-year-old has now been designated for assignment four times since December.
Cubs transferred 2B Tommy La Stella to the 60-day disabled list.
He's been out with an oblique injury since April 8. With Addison Russell settled in at second base, La Stella probably won't see much playing time when he comes back.
Rockies optioned RHP Justin Miller to Triple-A Albuquerque.
The Rockies needed to make room for John Axford. Miller made three appearances during his five-day stint with Colorado, holding opponents scoreless over 2 2/3 innings. The 28-year-old will continue to bounce back and forth between Albuquerque and Colorado.
Rockies activated RHP John Axford from the 7-day family emergency list.
Axford should immediately resume his role as closer. This year he's converted 13-of-14 save chances while posting a respectable 2.42 ERA. The Rockies sent Justin Miller to Triple-A Albuquerque to open up a roster spot.
Orioles optioned 2B Ryan Flaherty.
The Orioles needed to make room for Jonathan Schoop. Flaherty could return to the roster as soon as Monday. That's when the O's are expected to place Nolan Reimold on the paternity list. Usually when someone gets sent down they have to stay in the minors for a minimum of 10 days, but that doesn't apply to players on paternity leave.
