Rich Hill (finger) felt good after throwing a 60-pitch bullpen session on Saturday.
Hill had his blister covered for the first 45 pitches but took it off for the last 15. Assuming he isn't traded, Hill should return to the A's rotation either Thursday against the Angels or Friday versus the Cubs. He left his last start on July 17 after throwing just five pitches.
Kole Calhoun is not in the Angels' lineup Saturday against the Red Sox.
Calhoun will ride the bench with left-hander Drew Pomeranz throwing for Boston. Shane Robinson will handle right field in his absence. Calhoun hasn't done anything spectacular this year, but he's hit a respectable .279 with 10 HR, 54 RBI and 63 runs scored across 384 at-bats.
Angels activated OF Craig Gentry from the 60-day disabled list; designated him for assignment.
He's missed most of the year with a back injury. Gentry opened the year in a left field platoon with Daniel Nava, who was also DFA'd on Saturday. Now that role is being filled by Jefry Marte.
Angels activated OF Shane Robinson from the 15-day disabled list.
He missed most of July with a sprained right ankle. Robinson will hit ninth and play right field Saturday against Boston. The 31-year-old has hit just .215 with one homer in 65 at-bats this season.
Angels designated OF Daniel Nava for assignment.
The move clears a roster spot for Shane Robinson, who is back after missing three weeks with a sprained ankle. Nava hit only .245 with one homer in 119 at-bats for the Angels. His next team will be his fourth in the last two seasons.
Diamondbacks designated INF/OF Michael Freeman for assignment.
The D'Backs needed to clear space on the 40-man roster to bring up relievers Steve Hathaway and Adam Loewen. Freeman should clear waivers and return to Triple-A Reno. He went 0-for-9 during his brief stint in Arizona.
Diamondbacks purchased the contract of LHP prospect Steve Hathaway from Triple-A Reno.
Hathaway is on his way to Los Angeles to face the Dodgers amid a flurry of roster moves. The 25-year-old left-hander has dominated the Pacific Coast League this year with a 2.48 ERA over 37 relief outings. This will be his first stint in the big leagues.
Diamondbacks purchased the contract of LHP Adam Loewen from Triple-A Reno.
The 32-year-old right-hander is ready to make his D'backs debut after going 3-2 with a 3.52 ERA across 34 outings for Reno. Loewen has made 55 career big league appearances with his most recent stint coming with Philadelphia in 2015.
