Buster Posey left Wednesday's game after taking a foul ball off his mask.

Posey stayed in after the incident, but he was removed in the fifth inning. He's being re-evaluated, likely for concussion symptoms, and the club may have a better prognosis after the game. Andrew Susac would be in line for the bulk of the playing time if Posey is forced to miss time.

The Cubs are optimistic after an MRI on pitching prospect Duane Underwood's elbow showed on structural damage.

The club had an MRI taken of his right elbow after he felt discomfort during his most recent start with High-A Myrtle Beach. The scan showed swelling but no structural damage, and it will require only rest. The team is hopeful he can still pitch this year, and if nothing else, he'll likely avoid Tommy John surgery. It's a relief for the team and the 20-year-old.

White Sox manager Robin Ventura said Chris Sale could have his next scheduled start pushed back from Sunday to Monday.

In that scenario, Carlos Rodon would start in Sale's place Sunday. The idea would just to give Sale an extra day of rest, not to nurse any sort of injury. Sale has been terrific this season, going 6-4 with a 2.87 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 141/22 K/BB ratio through 15 starts.

Buster Posey left Wednesday's game against the Marlins with an undisclosed injury.

There was nothing apparent, but Andrew Susac replaced Posey behind the plate in the bottom of the fifth inning. A few inning earlier Posey took a foul ball off his mask. The Giants should provide an update shortly.

Bill Burns finished 2-for-4 with a double, triple and two runs scored as the Athletics topped the Rockies 4-1 on Wednesday.

Burns, as he has been for much of the year, was the catalyst for the A's offense against Chad Bettis and the Rockies. The speedy outfielder tripled and scored in the third inning -- his fifth triple of the season -- and doubled and scored in the fifth. Burns is batting .320/.361/.430 with 34 runs scored and 16 steals on the year. Burns is owned in just 64 percent of Yahoo leagues, a number that should be higher given what he's shown to this point.

Sonny Gray (illness) was released from the hospital Wednesday.

Gray had been hospitalized since Tuesday due to "severe gastroenteritis." Despite feeling better, there's no clear picture of when the right-hander might make his next start.
Jul 1 - 7:08 PM

Billy Butler went 2-for-3 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored in Wednesday's win over the Rockies.

The second-inning triple was just Butler's fifth in 4,599 career at-bats. He scored later in the inning and added an RBI single in the fifth. The big man is batting .259/.323/.376 on the year.

Tyler Clippard got four outs Wednesday against the Rockies to earn his 14th save of the season.

Clippard was called on to get the final out in the eighth inning before working a perfect ninth to close it out. The right-hander struck out two without allowing a baserunner in the outing. Clippard now owns a 2.67 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 32/15 K/BB ratio over 33 2/3 innings on the year.
