Eduardo Escobar had a two-run double and an RBI single as the Twins topped the Red Sox 6-2 on Tuesday.

The Twins won by four despite being outhit (8-5), outhomered (1-0) and outwalked (4-3). Escobar had the big hit against Chris Sale, plating two runs in the sixth, and also the go-ahead knock in the eighth after the Red Sox opted for new arrival Robby Scott in a tie game. He has 31 doubles in 66 games this year, which is one more than he had in 234 games between 2016 and 2017 combined.

Jose Berrios pitched 6 1/3 innings of one-run ball Tuesday against the Red Sox.

Berrios left with a one-run lead, but the Red Sox tied the game in the eighth before going on to lose, denying Berrios the win. The 24-year-old has had a pretty easy schedule this season, and this is just his second quality start against a top-scoring opponents, with the other coming against the Indians back when they were still cold in April. He's been pretty great since his late April-early May rough spell, though, and this makes six starts in seven in which he's allowed two runs or fewer.

Mike Montgomery held the Dodgers to one run over six innings Tuesday in the Cubs’ 2-1 extra-innings win in the second game of a doubleheader.

Montgomery walked four batters, and it finally came around to bite him when one of the free passes scored in the sixth inning. Still, it was another terrific effort from the left-hander, as he’s now surrendered one run in four straight outings. Montgomery boasts a 1.21 ERA and 0.84 WHIP over five starts since joining the Cubs’ rotation, giving him mixed league value even though he’s not missing bats (19 strikeouts over 29 2/3 frames). He gets the Reds in Cincinnati on Sunday.

Rich Hill’s return to Dodgers’ rotation Tuesday proved fruitful, as he tossed six scoreless innings and settled for a no-decision against the Cubs.

Hill showed no rust after missing the last month of action with another blister issue. He permitted just three singles and two walks while striking out six Cubs hitters in the excellent effort. Unfortunately for Hill, he missed out on a win when Kyle Schwarber took reliever Erik Goeddel deep to knot things up in the seventh inning. The Cubs eventually won in extras. Hill’s next start will also come against the Cubs, but that one will be at home.

Albert Almora hit a walk-off single in the Cubs' 2-1 win over the Dodgers on Tuesday in the second game of a doubleheader.

Kris Bryan led off the bottom of the 10th inning with a triple into the right-field corner. After the Dodgers elected to intentionally walk Javier Baez, Almora then punched a single through the right side. He also had a double earlier in the game and is now sporting a healthy .325/.371/.442 batting line. Almora has taken a nice step forward offensively this season, but his ceiling is limited in fantasy leagues because he doesn't hit for much power or steal bases.

Chris Sale didn't figure into the decision after allowing two runs in seven innings and striking out 11 against the Twins on Tuesday

As per usual, the Red Sox offense was dormant with its ace on the mound. Sale reached double figures in strikeouts for the fifth time, upping his K total to 140 in 102 innings. His ERA sits at 2.74.

Kyle Schwarber smashed a solo home run Tuesday against the Dodgers.

Schwarber's blast off of Erik Goeddel with one out in the seventh inning knotted the game up at 1-1 before the Cubs eventually won in extra innings. The outfielder has had a rough June so far but has now gone deep twice over his last four contests.
Jun 19 - 11:32 PM

Rafael Devers went 2-for-4 and homered in a second straight game Tuesday against the Twins.

Devers hasn't turned into a star at age 21, but he figures to keep improving after a rough start. He's hit in 12 of his last 13 starts, going 17-for-52 with three homers and, surprisingly, three steals.
