Mitch Moreland delivered a pinch-hit go-ahead two-run single in Friday's 9-6 victory over the Yankees.

The Red Sox were down 6-3 after the Yankees plated four runs in the top of the seventh, but they fought right back with four runs of their own in the bottom of the frame. Moreland put them ahead for good with a single up the middle against Tommy Kahnle. The 31-year-old faded bigtime in July, but he's hitting .318 (14-for-44) with two homers and eight RBI this month.

Dallas Keuchel blanked the A's for seven innings in Houston's 3-1 victory Friday.

Keuchel allowed just three hits and got 16 outs in the ground. He's allowed one run over 13 2/3 innings in his last two starts after struggling in his first three outings back from the disabled list. Keuchel is now 3-0 with a 0.83 ERA in three starts versus Oakland this year.

Ken Giles retired all five batters he faced, striking out three of them, for his 24th save Friday against the A's.

Gules has been excellent of late, but the save tonight was just his second of August and sixth since the beginning of July. The Astros are the AL's winningest team, but they've given Giles just 27 save chances while going 75-47. Compare that to Alex Colome, who has 35 saves in 40 chances for a 60-64 Rays team.

Sean Manaea surrendered three runs over six innings Friday in a loss to the Astros.

It's still progress for Manaea, considering that he gave up 18 runs -- 13 earned -- over 6 2/3 innings in his previous three starts combined. He's still winless since July 16, and he's a hard guy to trust in mixed leagues right now.

Jose Altuve went 2-for-4 and hit his 19th homer Friday against the Athletics.

Altuve broke out of an 0-for-4 slump tonight. He's up to 19 homers and 67 RBI now. He's on pace for 25 homers, 110 runs and 89 RBI, which is quite close to where he finished last year (24 homers, 108 runs, 96 RBI).

Craig Kimbrel notched his 29th save Friday after striking out the side against the Yankees.

The Red Sox now have a five-game lead in the AL East. Kimbrel needed just 14 pitches to set the Yankees down in order. He now has seven straight scoreless appearances under his belt. He’s struck out at least two batters in all of them. Kimbrel has been nothing short of amazing this year, with a 1.38 ERA, 0.63 WHIP, and 97/8 K/BB ratio over 52 innings.

Matt Carpenter crushed a three-run homer in a win over the Pirates on Friday.

He circled the bases after depositing a Trevor Williams offering over the wall with two runners aboard in the second inning. It was his only hit in three at-bats, although he did draw a walk as well. Carpenter's batting average has taken a tumble this season -- his current .249 mark would be a career low by a wide margin. He now has 16 home runs, 69 runs and 60 RBI in 499 plate appearances.

Corey Kluber suffered a minor ankle sprain during Friday's start against the Royals.

Indians' manager Terry Francona said afterwards that the injury is minor and as long as he's able to throw his regular bullpen session during the week that he isn't in danger of missing his next start, otherwise they'll push him back a few days.
