Orioles manager Buck Showalter said either T.J. McFarland or Jake Arrieta will start on Thursday in Toronto.

The O's decided to send down Jair Jurrjens in order to activate Miguel Gonzalez, so they'll need a fifth starter until Wei-Yin Chen (oblique) is ready. Arrieta is more stretched out since he's been used as a starter this season, but Showalter thinks McFarland would be able to throw 75-90 pitches. Neither pitcher would be worth streaming against the Blue Jays.

Indians recalled INF Cord Phelps from Triple-A Columbus.

Phelps will give the Indians some infield depth while Nick Swisher spends a few days with his wife and new baby daughter. Phelps was batting .233/.318/.431 with five homers and 19 RBI in 30 games at Triple-A.

Indians placed 1B Nick Swisher on the paternity leave list.

Swisher's wife gave birth to a girl on Tuesday afternoon. He will be back within the next couple of days.

Angels activated LHP Sean Burnett from the 15-day disabled list.

Burnett wound up missing a little over three weeks with discomfort in his left forearm. He will return to his role as a setup man and left-handed relief specialist.

Angels optioned RHP Ryan Brasier to Triple-A Salt Lake.

Brasier was only up in the bigs for five days this time around. He will probably be back and forth all summer.

Jordan Walden (shoulder) will not be ready to be activated from the disabled list next Monday.

That's the first day he's eligible to return, but the right-hander is not quite far along enough. Walden will throw a bullpen session later this week and then head out on a short minor league rehab assignment. He should be ready for activation just before the end of May.
May 21 - 5:21 PM

Blue Jays released RHP Miguel Batista.

Batista was sporting an 8.36 ERA and 2.04 WHIP through 28 innings at Triple-A Buffalo. The 42-year-old right-hander may try to latch on with a new organization.
May 21 - 5:08 PM

Ross Wolf will be recalled from Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday to start against the A's.

Nick Tepesch has a blister on his right middle finger, so Wolf is going to take the mound in his place. Wolf has posted a promising 1.85 ERA and 25/9 K/BB ratio in 34 innings this season at the Triple-A level, but the 30-year-old right-hander is not a great fantasy streamer.
