Scott Van Slyke (neck) returned to the Dodgers starting lineup on Friday, going 1-for-4 with a double in a victory over the Angels.

Van Slyke hurt his neck in a cap ride in New York on Saturday and had only appeared as a pinch hitter since. He should be fine moving forward.
Aug 1 - 8:39 AM

Edwin Encarnacion (finger) went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in his return to action on Friday.

The slugger was scratched from Wednesday's lineup with a jammed finger and sat out Thursday as well. He didn't seem to have any issues on Friday though and should be fine moving forward. With the two-hit effort, he's now hitting .241/.338/.455 with 19 homers and 56 RBI on the season.

Zack Greinke pitched eight innings of two-run ball to beat the Angels on Friday.

Greinke gave up runs for the second straight outing, but it wasn't really so bad. He allowed five hits, walked one and struck out eight in improving to 10-2. His ERA jumped from 1.37 to 1.41.
Aug 1 - 3:20 AM

Pitching while dealing with a virus, Kenley Jansen gave up a run in the ninth on his way to his 18th save Friday.

Jansen's stuff wasn't quite there tonight, but he had just enough to get the job done against the Angels. He might get Saturday off after laboring through 26 pitches in this one, potentially opening up a save chance for J.P. Howell or Pedro Baez.
Aug 1 - 3:19 AM

Alex Guerrero hit his 11th homer Friday in the win over the Angels.

Guerrero had been struggling mightily in his bit role, and the homer was his first since June 2. He's due additional playing time now with Justin Turner on the DL, so maybe he'll go on another role. Mixed leaguers in need of homers could do worse than rotating him in next week.
Aug 1 - 3:15 AM

Mike Trout went 3-for-4 with a homer, a triple and three RBI against the Dodgers on Friday.

The Angels had six hits in the loss, all of them coming from Kole Calhoun and Trout. At least they were hitting back-to-back, so the Angels did manage three rubs. It wasn't enough, though. Trout now has 32 homers in 99 games, leaving him just four shy of last year's career high.
Aug 1 - 3:13 AM

Danny Salazar shut down the A's on Friday, allowing just an unearned run and one hit over eight innings to earn his ninth win.

Salazar didn't have a big strikeout game, finishing with just four, but maybe that will be good for him; he really doesn't need to try to strike out everyone in order to succeed. The potential is still there for him to turn into one of the AL's best starters.
Aug 1 - 3:11 AM

Kendall Graveman limited the Indians to an unearned run over 6 2/3 innings in a no-decision on Friday.

After three straight poor starts, each worse than the last, Graveman turned it around nicely tonight. He allowed five hits, walked two and struck out six. His rotation spot might have been in jeopardy with another poor showing tonight, but he's worth playing in AL-only leagues for as long as the A's stick with him.
