Jacoby Ellsbury (oblique) will return to Grapefruit League action on Wednesday.

Ellsbury was given clearance to play in "real" games after going 2-for-5 at the plate in a minor league contest on Tuesday. It will be his first game since March 15, but there's no concern that Ellsbury won't be ready for Opening Day. "I've listened to them the entire process," Ellsbury said. "If they feel, 'Hey, you're a go for tomorrow,' I'll be out there tomorrow. If they're like, 'Hey, get some swings in and be out there the next day,' I'm fine with that too."

Braves sent OF Zoilo Almonte outright to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Almonte had a chance this spring to earn lots of playing time in left field, but he hit just .245/.283/.265 over 21 games. Jonny Gomes is in line to play regularly at the position.

An MRI on Tanner Scheppers' right ankle showed no structural damage.

He's been cleared to resume throwing, although it's not clear when he'll return to game action. Scheppers has been limited to just four appearances this spring due to the ankle issue, so he could begin the season on the disabled list even though the MRI revealed good news.

Aroldis Chapman was removed from Tuesday's appearance for precautionary reasons due to a right hamstring injury.

Chapman was pulled from the game after a long discussion with Reds coaches and trainers. The closer wanted to continue and insists that his hamstring is fine, so it sounds like this isn't anything to worry about. Expect Chapman to be available to pitch in a day or two.

X-rays on Andre Ethier's right elbow showed no fracture.

Ethier was plunked during Tuesday's game but has managed to avoid a serious injury. He could return to game action as soon as Thursday.

Aroldis Chapman was pulled from Tuesday's Cactus League game with an apparent injury.

Chapman appeared to be arguing that he was fine to stay in, but the flame-throwing closer ultimately exited the field with a large contingent of Reds coaches and trainers. Chapman had faced just one batter. There should be an update on his status shortly.

Ichiro Suzuki went 2-for-2 with an RBI and two steals as the Marlins topped the Cardinals 3-2 on Tuesday.

Ichiro is hitting .293 in 41 at-bats this spring. He's in line for pretty much every start that doesn't go to one of the Marlins' regular outfielders this season. That said, Christian Yelich, Marcell Ozuna and Giancarlo Stanton really don't figure to get many days off while healthy.
Mar 31 - 5:31 PM

Pete Kozma went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored Tuesday against the Marlins.

At this point, it's no longer a question of whether Kozma will hit .400 this year. No, we're just waiting to see if he bats .500. He's at .435 in 46 at-bats this spring, but he's just warming up.
