Mets pitching prospect Chris Flexen will be called up to make his major league debut Thursday in San Diego.

He's taking Zack Wheeler's (arm) spot in the rotation. Flexen, 23, has had a fantastic season after coming back from knee surgery, posting a 1.76 ERA and 63/10 K/BB ratio over 61 1/3 innings between High- and Double-A. He's ranked by MLB.com as the Mets' No. 22 prospect.

Rafael Devers is not in the Red Sox' lineup Monday.

The Red Sox are facing left-hander James Paxton, and they apparently don't want Devers to make his major league debut in such a tough matchup. The rookie should play against most lefties and obviously all righties as Boston sees if he can solve their third base issues. Deven Marrero is at the hot corner Monday.

Mariners transferred RHP Hisashi Iwakuma from the 10-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Danny Espinosa. Iwakuma has resumed a throwing program but there's no timetable for his return from shoulder issues.

Dodgers placed RHP Brandon McCarthy on the 10-day disabled list with a blister on his right hand.

McCarthy threw a bullpen session Sunday in hopes that his blister wouldn't keep him from starting Tuesday, but obviously it's not in good enough shape yet. Kenta Maeda will start Tuesday instead.

Dodgers placed LHP Clayton Kershaw on the 10-day disabled list with a lower back strain.

Kershaw suffered the injury during Sunday's start against the Braves. FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reported earlier Monday that the initial prognosis has Kershaw missing 4-6 weeks, but more will be known after he's examined by Dr. Robert Watkins. Kershaw, of course, also missed time last season with a back issue, but he returned late in the year and pitched well.
Jul 24 - 7:11 PM

Dodgers purchased the contract of LHP Edward Paredes from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Paredes, 30, holds a 2.23 ERA and 59/13 K/BB ratio between Double- and Triple-A this season. He'll be making his major league debut when he gets into a game.
Jul 24 - 6:57 PM

Dodgers activated LHP Hyun-Jin Ryu from the 10-day disabled list.

Ryu will start Monday against the Twins. He's missed most of this month with a bruised foot, although it's debatable how hurt he's actually been.

Padres acquired INF Esteury Ruiz from the Royals in the Trevor Cahill trade.

Ruiz, 18, is off to a .419/.440/.779 start in rookie ball this season. He's obviously a lottery ticket for the Padres, but an interesting one.
