Marco Gonzales was tagged for nine hits and four runs over 4 1/3 innings Wednesday in a no-decision against the Orioles.

He struck out one and didn’t walk anyone. Things were going just fine for Gonzales until the fifth when the Orioles exploded for three runs on five hits including an RBI triple by Craig Gentry. He also let in a run on a wild pitch. We’ll see how Gonzales fares in his next start Tuesday at Atlanta.

Tim Beckham homered as part of a two-hit effort Wednesday in the Orioles’ loss to Seattle.

Beckham led off the game with a solo blastn and broke a 3-3 tie with an RBI single in the fifth. He’s been impossibly hot since arriving in a deadline deal trade with Tampa Bay, hitting an absurd .485 for the month of August. The former first overall pick has already established new career-highs in both home runs (17) and RBI (48) and will soon have a chance to unseat J.J. Hardy (wrist) as the team's everyday shortstop.

Marcus Semien went 2-for-5 and cracked a two-run homer during a loss to the Royals on Wednesday.

His shot off starter Danny Duffy gave the Athletics a short-lived lead in the third inning. Semien spent almost the entire first half of the season on the disabled list with a broken wrist. He struggled when first returning in early July but has been good enough to be semi-useful in fantasy leagues of late. He has a .254 batting average with five homers and 20 RBI in 47 games overall. He is running more this year and has seven stolen bases without being caught. His career high is 11 steals in 155 games back in 2015.

Paul Blackburn let in four runs in four innings and did not get a decision against the Royals on Wednesday.

He struck out only two batters, issued three walks and surrendered eight base hits -- seven singles and a two-run bomb by Lorenzo Cain. The 23-year-old rookie entered the game with a snazzy 3.02 ERA but saw that jump to 3.46 on the heels of today's shaky outing. He has a 3-1 record and a 1.30 WHIP through nine starts. His very poor 22/16 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 54 2/3 innings predicts his ERA will keep rising.

Braves manager Brian Snitker said Matt Kemp (hamstring) will be the starter in left field when he returns from the disabled list.

Kemp will work out on Friday and if all goes well, he'll be activated Saturday versus Cincinnati. Matt Adams has been manning left field in Kemp's absence, though Snitker was clear that Kemp will be the starter upon his return. With Freddie Freeman back at first base full-time, it looks like Adams will be riding the pine for Atlanta.

Phillies optioned RHP Nick Pivetta to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

This comes after Pivetta scattered five hits and three runs while delivering a career-high 11 strikeouts in Wednesday's loss to San Diego. This is merely a procedural move as Pivetta is fully expected to make his next start. The Phillies have a doubleheader against the Marlins on Tuesday, at which point Pivetta will rejoin the rotation as the team's 26th man.

Yasmani Grandal is not in the Dodgers' lineup Wednesday against the White Sox.

Austin Barnes caught Yu Darvish's last start and will work with him again on Wednesday. Grandal has had a quiet month, batting just .161 with one homer over 31 August at-bats.

Cody Bellinger is not in the Dodgers' lineup Wednesday against the White Sox.

The Rookie of the Year frontrunner will get a rare day off on Wednesday. Rob Segedin will man first base in his absence while batting eighth against Pale Hose left-hander Carlos Rodon. The 22-year-old has cruised to a .333 average with six homers this month.
