Raiders DE Mario Edwards (hip) is a candidate for the reserve/PUP list.
Edwards has been sidelined since Oakland's preseason opener. He was given a 4-6 week timetable, but hasn't progressed as expected. Stashing Edwards on PUP would allow the Raiders to free a roster spot for the first six games. Jihad Ward and Denico Autry project to replace Edwards opposite Khalil Mack.
Ameer Abdullah expects to get the majority of carries this season.
"Obviously, all of us wants to get carries," Abdullah said. "I’m hoping and expecting to get the bulk." Abdullah is the clear starter with Joique Bell gone, but is going to lose snaps to Theo Riddick in all passing situations. Zach Zenner/Dwayne Washington aren't expected to cut into Abdullah's short-yardage work.
Vikings placed QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) on injured reserve, ending his season.
Bridgewater suffered a completely torn ACL, dislocated knee, and other structural damage at Tuesday's practice. He's facing a lengthy rehab and isn't a lock to be ready for Week 1 next season. Shaun Hill will replace Bridgewater, but the Vikings could look outside the organization for another quarterback.
The Cowboys are expected to restructure CB Orlando Scandrick's contract.
Scandrick will convert $4 million of his salary into a bonus. The move should create $3M in cap space that Dallas can use toward a backup quarterback. Scandrick is signed through 2019.
Bills claimed C Patrick Lewis off waivers from the Seahawks.
Lewis was a surprise cut after starting nine games last year. He adds veteran depth to Buffalo's interior line. Lewis should push for the backup center job.
Steelers placed QB Bruce Gradkowski (hamstring) on injured reserve, ending his season.
The move clears a spot for Zach Mettenberger. Gradkowski will miss his second straight season after spending all last year on I.R. His NFL career is likely over.
Steelers claimed QB Zach Mettenberger off waivers from the Chargers.
Mettenberger struggled in limited preseason snaps with San Diego, failing to play in either of the last two games. He was reportedly shopped to Dallas before getting cut. The Steelers are desperate for an upgrade behind Ben Roethlisberger, but Mettenberger isn't more than a rehab project. He'll be the No. 3 quarterback behind Landry Jones.
Waiver claim CB K'Waun Williams failed his physical with the Bears and is a free agent.
Williams needed ankle surgery two weeks ago, and he's not yet healthy. Once he is, it's possible the Bears revisit Williams, but their search for cornerback help will move forward. Williams was expected to cover the slot.
