Twins optioned RHP Aaron Slegers to Triple-A Rochester.

He was just recalled earlier in the day. He spent one game with the Twins without seeing action before being sent back to the minors to make room for RHP David Hale, whom the team claimed off waivers from the Yankees. Slegers has a 2.00 ERA in three starts with Rochester this year. He pitched in four games for the Twins last season, recording a 6.46 ERA in 15 1/3 innings.

Hunter Pence will report to the Triple-A Sacramento Rivercats to begin a rehab assignment on Friday.

Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports reported the news. Pence was placed on the disabled list last Friday with a right thumb sprain. It looks like he could be back in action after the minimum stay on the DL, although the Giants might want him to spend a little extra time finding his stroke -- he is batting just .172/.197/.190 with zero homers and three RBI in 17 games this year.

Zach Britton threw a side session today with good results as he continued his rehab for a ruptured Achilles tendon.

Britton is still at least a month away from returning to the Orioles but it is a good sign to see him ramping up his throwing program. The team has struggled in the ninth inning, with Brad Brach and Darren O'Day sharing the closer role in Britton's absence.

David Peralta went 2-for-3 with a homer, two RBI and two walks in the Diamondbacks' 8-2 win over the Phillies on Thursday.

Peralta is batting .317 with three homers, 14 RBI and 13 runs scored in 20 games. He still has issues as a fantasy outfielder; he's not a big power or speed guy and he'll likely sit against lefties rather frequently after Steven Souza comes off the disabled list, but he's a very solid, underrated major leaguer.
Apr 26 - 4:56 PM

Matt Koch pitched six innings of two-run ball for his second win as a major leaguer Thursday against the Phillies.

Koch's previous win came in relief in 2016. He's pitched well in both of his starts this year, allowing a total of three runs in 12 innings. His fastball is lacking and getting through major league lineups three times an outing figures to prove to be an issue, but he's giving the Diamondbacks a lift right now. He'll get the Dodgers next.
Apr 26 - 4:54 PM

Ben Lively was blasted for seven runs in 2 1/3 innings by the Diamondbacks on Thursday.

Lively likely put his rotation spot in jeopardy with this one, though it'd be worth giving him one more start anyway. While he's 0-2 with a 6.85 ERA, the Phillies have still won three of his five starts (and the previous loss came in a 2-0 game). If they do want to replace him, they could just plug in Drew Hutchison from the pen. Hutchison threw 3 2/3 innings in relief today.
Apr 26 - 4:50 PM

Nick Ahmed hit a three-run homer against the Phillies on Thursday.

Ahmed hasn't picked up many hits, but of the 13 he's collected, four have left the yard and eight have gone for extra bases. He's not the same kind of defensive shortstop he was a couple of years ago, so he might not last as a regular for the Diamondbacks. Still, as long as he's carrying his weight offensively, he's going to play.
Apr 26 - 4:46 PM

Aaron Altherr drove in both Phillies runs with a double and a groundout Thursday against the Diamondbacks.

That's eight RBI in four games for Altherr, who is pulling ahead of Nick Williams in the competition for playing time in right field. It'd make sense for the Phillies to give Altherr the full-time job, or something close to it, and send down Williams for a spell so that he can play regularly in Triple-A.
