Seth Smith homered for the only run of the game in the Mariners' win over the Royals on Friday.

Smith also walked twice. He's usurped Kyle Seager's position as the No. 2 hitter against righties, and with a .424 OBP to date, he's running away with the spot now. It still doesn't give him much in the way of mixed-league value, though, at least not unless we're talking OBP leagues.
Apr 30 - 1:07 AM

Alex Gordon went 0-for-3 with a walk in the loss to the Mariners on Friday.

He struck out against Steve Cishek with the team down one in the ninth. Gordon was a lousy bet for fantasy purposes entering the season, in part because the Royals were planning on hitting him fifth in the order, but his .213 average and five RBI through 22 games are still rather unexpected. He's struck out 29 times already.

Adam Conley fired 7 2/3 no-hit innings in Friday’s 6-3 win over the Brewers.

Marlins manager Don Mattingly made the bold call to pull Conley after 116 pitches. Jonathan Lucroy eventually broke up the no-hitter with a one-out single off Jose Urena in the bottom of the ninth. While Conley didn’t get a chance to finish off the no-hitter, it was still a very encouraging outing. The southpaw walked four and struck out seven while inducing 14 swinging strikes. While he’s been a bit up and down in the early part of the season, he continues to show why he deserves consideration in mixed fantasy leagues. Conley lines up for a start against the Diamondbacks at home next week.
Apr 30 - 12:55 AM

A.J. Ramos escaped trouble on Friday against the Brewers for his seventh save of the season.

It looked like the Marlins wouldn’t need Ramos at all, as they held a 6-0 lead going into the bottom of the ninth while trying to finish off a no-hitter. However, Jose Urena ended up surrendering three runs before Ramos got the call. After walking Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Domingo Santana to load the bases, Ramos struck out Jonathan Villar swinging to finally put the game to bed. The 29-year-old has walked eight batters in 9 1/3 innings this season, but he also has 13 strikeouts and a 0.96 ERA.
Apr 30 - 12:53 AM

Justin Bour had a monster night Friday against the Brewers, going 3-for-4 with two home runs and a career-high five RBI.

Bour slugged a three-run homer in the first inning before adding an RBI double in the third inning and a solo homer in the sixth. This was his second career multi-homer again. The 27-year-old entered the day with one home run through his first 70 plate appearances. Perhaps this will finally get him going.
Apr 30 - 12:52 AM

Zach Davies was touched up for four runs on six hits and three walks over five innings in a loss to the Marlins on Friday.

Davies dug himself an early hole by giving up a three-run bomb to Justin Bour in the first inning. While the 23-year-old posted a 3.71 ERA over six starts as a rookie last season, his secondary numbers indicated that he was walking a fine line. He has dropped all three of his starts this season and owns an ugly 8.78 ERA. Fantasy owners have better options to choose from.
Apr 30 - 12:51 AM

Martin Prado went 3-for-5 with a run scored Friday against the Brewers.

Prado had two singles and a double. He now has three hits in three straight games, which has raised his batting average from .333 to .397 in the process. Only Cardinals rookie shortstop Aledmys Diaz (.420) has a higher batting average in the majors. Prado finished with nine home runs last season and has yet to go deep so far this season, so his upside is a bit limited in fantasy leagues, but he can be a useful piece in deeper formats.
Apr 30 - 12:50 AM

Derek Dietrich made the start at second base Friday against the Brewers and finished 0-for-3.

With Dee Gordon serving his 80-game PED suspension, Dietrich will see an uptick in playing time. The Marlins could end up playing him at third base and Martin Prado at second, but they didn’t change their alignment on Friday. Dietrich had 10 homers with an .802 OPS last season and is batting .290/.389/.548 through 17 games this season, so he deserves to be on the radar in deeper mixed fantasy leagues.
