Ivan Nova - S - Yankees

Ivan Nova (triceps) could be activated from the disabled list early next week.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi was vague about a possible timeline for Nova when asked Wednesday, but general manager Brian Cashman said Thursday that he is the closest to returning among the team's active players. However, it isn't clear whether he'll do so as a member of the starting rotation.

Alex Burnett - R - Orioles

Orioles designated RHP Alex Burnett for assignment.

The move clears a spot for Kevin Gausman on the 40-man roster. Burnett made two appearances with the Orioles earlier this month and owns a 1.86 ERA and 8/1 K/BB ratio over 9 2/3 innings in Triple-A. He could draw interest on waivers.

Darin Mastroianni - OF - Twins

Darin Mastroianni underwent surgery Thursday to repair bone chips on his left ankle.

The best-case scenario is that Mastroianni will resume weight-bearing activities in three weeks. However, he's expected to be sidelined until the second half of the season.

Kevin Gausman - S - Orioles

Orioles purchased the contract of RHP Kevin Gausman from Double-A Bowie.

Gausman will make his major league debut Thursday night against the Orioles. The 22-year-old has only made 13 starts in the minors, but owns an impressive 3.23 ERA and 62/6 K/BB ratio in 61 1/3 innings. With his ability to miss bats and pound the strike zone, he's well worth owning in mixed leagues.

Jake Arrieta - S - Orioles

Orioles optioned RHP Jake Arrieta to Triple-A Norfolk.

Arrieta was called up from the minors over the weekend, but didn't make an appearance with the club. He's slated to pitch as a starter in Triple-A. Kevin Gausman will replace him on the active roster.

Adam Jones - OF - Orioles

Adam Jones will serve as the designated hitter for the third straight game Thursday.

Jones is currently dealing with some groin soreness, so Orioles manager Buck Showalter continues to exercise caution. Chris Dickerson will start in center field again Thursday.

Salvador Perez - C - Royals

Salvador Perez (hip) is back in Thursday's lineup against the Angels.

Perez suffered a deep right hip bruise Monday when he slid into a barrier while attempting to catch a foul ball, but fortunately an MRI ruled out any structural damage. It shouldn't be an issue moving forward.

Mark Teixeira - 1B - Yankees

Mark Teixeira (wrist) could begin a minor league rehab assignment Tuesday with Double-A Trenton.

Teixeira has participated in simulated games this week without incident and took batting practice Thursday in Tampa. The 33-year-old was originally aiming to return from the disabled by May 31, but he may need a few extra days to shake the rust. Still, he's making fine progress.
