Russell Martin went 3-for-5 with a homer, a double and a walk as the Blue Jays crushed the Reds 17-2 on Monday.

Martin drove in three and scored three times. He was one of five Jays to collect at least three hits, joining Kendrys Morales, Justin Smoak, Devon Travis and Ezequiel Carrera. Only Kevin Pillar failed to join in the fun, finishing 0-for-6 from the leadoff spot.

Marcus Stroman cruised to an easy win in allowing two runs over six innings Monday against the Reds.

The Jays were winning 13-2 when Stroman's outing ended and ended up prevailing 17-2. Stroman improved to 6-2 with a 3.28 ERA.

Lisalverto Bonilla was tagged for six runs in 2 1/3 innings Monday in his start against the Blue Jays.

On the plus side, both pitchers who relieved Bonilla were so bad that his performance might wind up mostly forgotten by the club. Robert Stephenson allowed seven runs and 10 hits in two innings after taking over, and Jake Buchanan finished up by allowing four runs and 10 hits in 3 2/3 innings. Bonilla, who walked five of the 15 batters he faced tonight, is now 0-3 with a 7.71 ERA. He belongs in middle relief if he's going to stick around.

Kendrys Morales went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two walks and four runs scored Monday versus the Reds.

As you might imagine, Morales doesn't score four runs in a game very often. It's just the fourth time it's happened, and in one of the previous games, he hit three homers. Morales has been much improved in May and is hitting .258/.320/.466 with nine homers for the season.

Justin Smoak went 3-for-5 with a homer, four RBI and a walk Monday in the rout of the Reds.

Smoak has eight homers in May and 12 overall. There's little chance that he'll continue hitting for average for any length of time, but the power numbers could remain pretty solid in the middle of the Jays lineup.
May 29 - 11:41 PM

Troy Tulowitzki went 2-for-5 and hit a grand slam Monday against the Reds.

Tulo is 3-for-11 with no strikeouts and two walks since coming off the disabled list on Friday. He's not much more than a fringe option in mixed leagues at this point, but now that the Jays are hitting, there are worse choices.

Mike Trout will have surgery Wednesday to repair a ulnar collateral ligament tear in his left thumb and will be sidelined for 6-8 weeks.

The non-surgical route could have potentially cut Trout's rehab time roughly in half, but evidently the tear was deemed severe enough that surgery was deemed the best option. It's simply a brutal blow for fantasy owners, as Trout just isn't a guy that can be replaced. As far as the Angels go, they will move Cameron Maybin over to center field and will likely use Ben Revere most of the time in left. They've also called up Eric Young Jr. to provide depth.

Eduardo Nunez (head) is battling vision issues.

Nunez was dazed after a slide home on a passed ball Sunday, as the throw hit him in the helmet and he also took a knee to the jaw. He felt better Monday than he did after Sunday's game and hopes to avoid being placed on the 7-day concussion DL, but it's still up in the air at this point. Orlando Calixte is on the Giants' taxi squad in case they need to make a move.
