Jordan Zimmermann (groin) will try to throw long-toss on Friday.
And if it goes well, he could try throwing off a mound on Sunday. Zimmermann was diagnosed with a Grade 1 strain of his right groin muscle after making an early exit from his start Sunday against the Rays. A disabled list stint is still a real possibility.
Astros released C Erik Kratz.
Kratz was designated for assignment by the Astros on May 16 and passed through waivers unclaimed. The veteran catcher owns a .210/.261/.381 career batting line in MLB.
Rockies activated LHP Jorge De La Rosa from the 15-day disabled list.
De La Rosa will return to the Rockies' starting rotation Tuesday night at Fenway Park after missing the last four weeks with a strained left groin. The veteran southpaw had a 10.18 ERA and 2.07 WHIP over his first five appearances this season and makes for an awful fantasy streaming option against the dangerous Boston offense.
Rockies optioned RHP Jordan Lyles to Triple-A Albuquerque.
Lyles was lit up for six runs -- four earned -- over just 2 1/3 innings Monday in a loss to the Pirates, watching his season ERA rise to 8.55. It might be a while before the right-hander gets another look. Jorge De La Rosa (groin) was activated from the disabled list in a corresponding 25-man roster move.
Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said Justin Upton (quad) probably won't play Wednesday either.
Upton was a late scratch Monday and is being held out again Tuesday due to tightness in his right quad. Ausmus said the team is just trying to be cautious. Upton, signed to a six-year, $132.75 million free agent contract this winter, is batting just .223/.270/.319 with 66 strikeouts over his first 178 plate appearances for Detroit.
Orioles purchased the contract of LHP Ashur Tolliver from Double-A Bowie.
He will be taking over for lefty reliever Brian Matusz, who was traded to the Braves on Monday. Tolliver had a cool 2.42 ERA and 25/8 K/BB ratio through 26 innings this season at the Double-A level.
Byung-ho Park is out of the Twins' lineup Tuesday.
Park is in a 1-for-21 rut and will take a day of mental and physical rest with the Royals throwing right-hander Dillon Gee. Miguel Sano will DH and Oswaldo Arcia will start in right field versus Kansas City.
White Sox released 1B Travis Ishikawa.
Ishikawa was batting .201/.277/.344 through 175 plate appearances this season at Triple-A Charlotte. The 32-year-old will try to latch on with a new organization.
