Tim Hudson gave up three runs on six hits over seven innings Tuesday in a loss to the Pirates.

Hudson struck out two, walked one, and yielded two homers which accounted for all the runs charged to him. Indeed, he pitched pretty well outside Josh Harrison's solo homer in the first and Travis Snider's two-run shot in the following frame. Over his first seven home starts this season, the right-hander went 5-0 with a 2.16 ERA, but he's now lost four straight at AT&T Park. Those numbers are systemic of his overall struggles. Hudson started the year 7-2 with a 1.81 ERA in 13 starts, but entered 1-5 with a 4.40 ERA in his past seven. Hudson toes the rubber against the Mets in New York next week.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Rockies are expected to hang on to LaTroy Hawkins.

Hawkins is 41 and would have some value on a contending team in a middle relief role, but the Rockies like his veteran presence and plan to pick up his $2.25 million club option for 2015. Hawkins has saved 17-of-18 chances this season while sporting a 3.09 ERA. The Pirates and a couple other clubs had expressed interest.

Brett Gardner continued his hot hitting on Tuesday, going 4-for-5 with two doubles, a home run and three runs scored in the Yankees' 12-11 victory over the Rangers.

Gardner is now 7-for-10 with three home runs and five runs scored in the first two games of the series. His three runs give him 67 runs scored for the year, sixth-most in the American League. The 30-year-old's hit parade has his triple slash line up to .283/.357/.455, and if the season ended today he would set personal bests in both slugging percentage and OPS.

J.P. Arencibia had a ridiculous night at the plate Tuesday, finishing 4-for-5 with two doubles, two home runs and seven RBI against the Yankees.

Arencibia connected on a solo shot in the fifth inning before blasting a grand slam in the seventh. His 12 total bases were a career high for a single game, and it was the eighth two-homer game of his career. The power has always been present, but his .183/.223/.404 line is what keeps him from being a fantasy option.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Athletics are also "in the mix" for Jon Lester.

It would certainly be a stunner if they were able to land Lester after picking up Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel earlier this month. Rosenthal has also reported that the Cardinals, Dodgers and Pirates are in negotiations with the Red Sox regarding Lester. Gordon Edes of ESPNBoston.com also hears that the Blue Jays and Orioles are in on Lester, though WEEI.com's Rob Bradford and Alex Speier are saying those two teams are out of it. Lester has been scratched from Wednesday's scheduled start and is expected to be dealt soon.

David Robertson allowed two runs but stranded the bases loaded to secure the save against the Rangers on Tuesday.

Nothing came easy for pitchers in Arlington on Tuesday night, as nine of the 10 pitchers used allowed at least one run. Robertson's downfall was his command, as he walked three to go with two singles in the inning. But with the game on the line, the right-hander got Adrian Beltre to fly out to left field to end it. Robertson has allowed runs in each of his last two outings but still owns a 2.88 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 68/14 K/BB ratio through 40 2/3 innings. It'll take more than two shaky outings to unseat Robertson as the closer in the Bronx.

Mark Teixeira went 1-for-2 with a home run, three walks and three runs scored in a win over the Rangers on Tuesday.

It was a triumphant return to the lineup for the 34-year-old, who had missed more than a week with a lower left lat strain. The homer was his 18th in 78 games this year, and he's got 50 RBI to boot. Now healthy and, apparently, seeing the ball well, Teixeira can safely be inserted back into fantasy lineups going forward.
Jul 30 - 12:27 AM

Elvis Andrus finished 3-for-5 with two RBI, a stolen base and a run scored against the Yankees on Tuesday.

Andrus had three of the Rangers' 15 hits on the night. The stolen base was his 21st of the year, fourth-best in the American League. He's hit safely in six straight games, raising his season line to .268/.316/.342. It's been a down year by Andrus' standards, but perhaps his recent success is a sign of better things to come from here out.
