Ben Zobrist went 2-for-4 and scored the Cubs' only run of the game on Saturday.

The Cubs couldn't get much going against the Brewers' Zach Davies. After starting the season like gangbusters, Zobrist has not hit well for the last few weeks. He has more walks than strikeouts this year, which increases his value in points leagues. He is batting .267/.376/.441 with 13 homers.

Yordano Ventura suffered a right rib contusion on Saturday night against the Rangers.

Ventura was struck by a comebacker off the bat of Adrian Beltre, and the ball had an exit velocity of 109 mph. But thankfully X-rays turned up negative and he should be fine for his next turn in the Kansas City rotation. The right-hander yielded three earned runs on three hits and four walks over five innings against Texas.

Ryan Zimmerman (rib cage) went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer Saturday with High-A Potomac.

That makes him 5-for-12 with five RBI on his three-game minor league rehab assignment. Out since July 7 because of a left rib cage strain, Zimmerman is expected to return to the Nationals' active roster on Tuesday.

Mac Williamson smacked a go-ahead RBI single in the top of the 12th inning Saturday as the Giants defeated the Yankees 2-1 in New York.

That's the first win since the All-Star break for San Francisco. Williamson provided all of the Giants' offense Saturday, slugging a solo homer in the fifth inning off Ivan Nova and then playing the role of hero with a base hit to center field in the 12th. That all made up for a bad fielding error in the fourth that gave the Yankees their only run of the game. Williamson is slashing .247/.337/.506 with six home runs and 15 RBI in 81 at-bats.

Johnny Cueto allowed just one unearned run over six innings Saturday in a no-decision versus the Yankees.

San Francisco wound up winning in 12 innings. The one run Cueto surrendered came on a Mark Teixeira single in the bottom of the fourth inning, when a Mac Williamson fielding error allowed Didi Gregorius to score. Cueto struck out nine and walked just one. He stands 13-2 with a 2.53 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and 128/28 K/BB ratio in 142 1/3 innings this season.
Jul 23 - 8:41 PM

Ivan Nova threw seven innings of one-run ball Saturday in a no-decision against the Giants.

Nova got only one run of support from the Yankees offense and the Giants wound up winning the game 2-1 in 12 innings. Nova struck out seven and scattered six hits. He's been good now in three of his last four starts and will try to keep it working next week against the Rays. He has a 4.65 ERA for the year.

Kurt Suzuki was cleared of a concussion.

Suzuki left Saturday's game against the Red Sox after taking a foul tip off his catcher's mask, but he escaped with a minor cut. Consider him day-to-day. Juan Centeno took over behind the plate for Minnesota.

Tommy Stokke of FanRag Sports reports Chris Sale was sent home from U.S. Cellular Field on Saturday after cutting up throwback jerseys that he did not want to wear.

This story takes another fascinating turn. Via FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal: "Sale asked that they not wear (throwbacks) on his day because they are uncomfortable. Things escalated when they wouldn't relent." Sale went after the jerseys with a knife during pregame batting practice, and then apparently exchanged some words with members of the White Sox front office for putting merchandise sales ahead of winning. He could be traded before the August 1 deadline, though that wouldn't really have anything to do with this odd incident. Matt Albers is starting in Sale's place on Saturday night against the Tigers.
