Mike Napoli had a homer, an RBI double and a walk Wednesday against the White Sox.

Napoli has very quietly gong 12-for-36 with two homers and five doubles in 11 games since the All-Star break. The Red Sox still aren't going to get much of anything for him if they trade him now, but he might look more attractive if he keeps this up for a couple of more weeks. In the meantime, those desperate for power in mixed leagues might want to give him a look.

According to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN, the Rangers remain open to the idea of trading Yovani Gallardo.

Even though Wednesday's acquisition of Cole Hamels sets the Rangers up to compete in 2016, Gallardo is an impending free agent and could net the club a nice return in the trade market. The veteran right-hander owns a 3.19 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 83/46 K/BB ratio over 121 1/3 innings on the season.

Jed Lowrie (thumb) will be activated from the disabled list and return to the Astros lineup on Thursday.

Lowrie will start at third base for the Astros, with Carlos Correa firmly entrenched as the team's starting shortstop. Before landing on the shelf, the 31-year-old was hitting .300/.432/.567 with four homers and 10 RBI in 18 games.

Astros designated RHP Roberto Hernandez for assignment.

The 34-year-old right-hander posted 4.36 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 42/26 K/BB ratio in his 84 2/3 innings with the Astros. He'll look to latch on elsewhere to continue his big league career.

Tyson Ross pitched five innings of one-run ball Wednesday in a victory over the Mets.

Maybe Ross's status as a trade candidate had something to do with him exiting after 83 pitches and not being pushed to pitch a sixth inning. His control wasn't the best tonight, as it often hasn't been this year, but he's just so darn difficult to get the ball in the air against. The homer he allowed to Lucas Duda tonight was just the fourth he's given up in 127 2/3 innings this season.
Jul 29 - 11:41 PM

Bartolo Colon was lit up for six runs and 10 hits in 2 1/3 innings by the Padres on Wednesday.

Colon fell to 0-6 in his last seven starts, though he's had three fine outings during the span. His rotation spot remains safe, at least until Steven Matz returns. Most likely, he'll bounce back just enough to keep it for the rest of the year.
Jul 29 - 11:40 PM

Yangervis Solarte finished 4-for-5 with two doubles and two runs scored Wednesday against the Mets.

Solarte is playing fairly regularly with Will Middlebrooks in the minors and Cory Spangenberg on the DH, and he's hit well this month, batting .284 with three homers in 74 at-bats. There's no mixed-league value here at all, but he's giving the Padres a lift.
Jul 29 - 11:38 PM

Justin Upton went 2-for-4 and hit his 17th homer Wednesday versus the Mets.

He also had a sac fly and finished the night with three RBI. He's still batting just .186 in 156 at-bats since the beginning of June, but better days are surely ahead.
