Danny Duffy surrendered four runs in five innings and settled for a no-decision against the Athletics on Wednesday.

He was able to punch out eight batters while walking two. He gave up six hits, including a two-run blast by shortstop Marcus Semien. The other two runs scored on a Jed Lowrie knock in the fifth inning. Duffy's record holds at 7-8 with a pretty good 3.82 ERA in 20 starts. He has 109 strikeouts in 125 innings. Next up for Duffy is a home start against the Rockies on Wednesday.

Ubaldo Jimenez was lit up for eight hits and six runs over 4 1/3 innings Wednesday in the Orioles’ loss to the Mariners.

He struck out two and walked one while throwing 57 of his 94 pitches for strikes. Jimenez began his outing by logging a pair of scoreless innings but unraveled quickly after that, yielding one run in the third, two in the fourth and three in the fifth. The right-hander has now lost four of seven starts since the All-Star break with a 6.03 ERA since the All-Star break. He’ll try to bounce back Monday against the A’s.
Aug 16 - 8:12 PM

Edwin Diaz collapsed Wednesday against the Orioles, yielding two runs and three walks before being lifted with two outs in the ninth inning.

Just 16 of the right-hander’s 37 pitches went for strikes. Manager Scott Servais decided he’d seen enough after Diaz hit Mark Trumbo with the bases loaded to bring in another run. Mark Rzepczynski came in to record the final out, striking out Chris Davis to preserve the Mariners’ 7-6 victory while earning his first save of the season. Diaz lost his closer’s job for a stretch earlier this year and could be headed that way again, particularly with David Phelps nearing a return from the disabled list.

Matt Chapman clubbed a two-run homer and finished 2-for-4 in a loss to the Royals on Wednesday.

He went yard off reliever Brandon Mauerer with a runner aboard to knot the score in the eighth inning, but the Royals regained the lead in the ninth. The rookie third-sacker is known more for his glove than his bat but he does have real potential at the plate. He hit 16 home runs in 49 games at Triple-A this year before getting the call to the majors. He is batting .230/.301/.514 with nine homers and 24 RBI in 42 major league games.
Aug 16 - 8:11 PM

Marco Gonzales was tagged for nine hits and four runs over 4 1/3 innings Wednesday in a no-decision against the Orioles.

He struck out one and didn’t walk anyone. Things were going just fine for Gonzales until the fifth when the Orioles exploded for three runs on five hits including an RBI triple by Craig Gentry. He also let in a run on a wild pitch. We’ll see how Gonzales fares in his next outing Tuesday against Atlanta.
Aug 16 - 8:09 PM

Tim Beckham homered as part of a two-hit effort Wednesday in the Orioles’ loss to Seattle.

Beckham led off the game with a solo blastn and broke a 3-3 tie with an RBI single in the fifth. He’s been impossibly hot since arriving in a deadline deal trade with Tampa Bay, hitting an absurd .485 for the month of August. The former first overall pick has already established new career-highs in both home runs (17) and RBI (48) and will soon have a chance to unseat J.J. Hardy (wrist) as the team's everyday shortstop.
Aug 16 - 8:08 PM

Marcus Semien went 2-for-5 and cracked a two-run homer during a loss to the Royals on Wednesday.

His shot off starter Danny Duffy gave the Athletics a short-lived lead in the third inning. Semien spent almost the entire first half of the season on the disabled list with a broken wrist. He struggled when first returning in early July but has been good enough to be semi-useful in fantasy leagues of late. He has a .254 batting average with five homers and 20 RBI in 47 games overall. He is running more this year and has seven stolen bases without being caught. His career high is 11 steals in 155 games back in 2015.
Aug 16 - 8:06 PM

Paul Blackburn let in four runs in four innings and did not get a decision against the Royals on Wednesday.

He struck out only two batters, issued three walks and surrendered eight base hits -- seven singles and a two-run bomb by Lorenzo Cain. The 23-year-old rookie entered the game with a snazzy 3.02 ERA but saw that jump to 3.46 on the heels of today's shaky outing. He has a 3-1 record and a 1.30 WHIP through nine starts. His very poor 22/16 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 54 2/3 innings predicts his ERA will keep rising.
