Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Yasiel Puig (hamstring) is available off the bench Tuesday.

But that might only be in the event of an emergency. Puig tweaked his right hamstring last Thursday and has made just one pinch-hitting appearance since. "To me it's not to the point where I want him in [the starting lineup]," Roberts told reporters on Tuesday after watching Puig run the bases.

Andre Ethier (leg) took on-field batting practice for the first time Tuesday.

But he told reporters after the workout that he is still only running at about 50 percent effort. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts estimated earlier this month that Ethier could be activated around mid-August, but the veteran outfielder will have to clear some hurdles quickly in order to make that happen.

Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale said he expects David Peralta (back) to return Friday.

Peralta was pulled from a minor league rehab game last week at Triple-A Reno after taking a pitch off the inside of his knee, but he escaped with a bruise. He is 5-for-16 (.313) through five rehab games.

Zack Greinke (oblique) is expected to make an appearance in an Arizona League game on Friday.

Greinke made it through a 40-pitch simulated appearance on Tuesday and should be cleared to begin a minor league rehab assignment if he wakes up Wednesday feeling fine. He could return to the Diamondbacks after just one minor league outing. The ace right-hander has been sidelined since June 29 because of a left oblique strain.

Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale said he's hopeful Jake Lamb (hand) can return Friday.

Lamb has been dealing with a bruised left hand. He went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts on Monday night against the Brewers and is hitless over his last five games. The hope is the 25-year-old third baseman can get back to cranking homers with a bit of rest and rehab.

Yasiel Puig (hamstring) is out of the Dodgers' lineup Tuesday for the fifth consecutive game.

Puig has been sidelined since tweaking his right hamstring last Thursday. He was able to pinch-hit Friday but hasn't been heard from since. Andrew Toles is starting in right field on Tuesday night against the Rays.
Jul 26 - 6:14 PM

Ryan Hanigan was scratched from the Red Sox lineup Tuesday due to flu-like symptoms.

Sandy Leon will start behind the plate against the Tigers. Hanigan is considered day-to-day.

Joey Gallo is starting at first base and batting sixth on Tuesday night against the Athletics.

Mitch Moreland is at designated hitter and Jurickson Profar is starting at shortstop. Gallo will probably get the majority of his playing time at first base, with Moreland seeing a dip in action. The 22-year-old slugger was sporting a .949 OPS with 19 home runs and 47 RBI in 70 games this season at Triple-A Round Rock.
