Anthony Rizzo cranked a two-run homer in the Cubs' win over the Rockies on Wednesday.

It was his first home run since July 7. Rizzo has been in an offensive rut, but he still owns a shiny .279/.393/.500 batting line on the season. And he's now up to 17 home runs and 53 RBI in 99 games.

Andrew McCutchen went 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBI in Wednesday's 10-4 rout of the Twins.

McCutchen launched a two-run homer in the top of the fifth inning and an RBI single in the top of the sixth. He's batting .290/.386/.490 with 14 home runs and 64 RBI in 97 games this season for the Bucs.

Ervin Santana was blasted for eight earned runs in 5 2/3 innings Wednesday in a loss to the Pirates.

Yikes. Santana entered the afternoon outing with a 2.60 ERA in four starts since returning from his PED suspension and he left it with a 3.78 ERA. The 32-year-old right-hander will try to get back on track next week in a road outing against the Blue Jays.

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Rangers are "now the clear-cut favorite" to land Cole Hamels.

Nightengale says the Dodgers prefer David Price, and the Tigers made it public Wednesday that they're going to begin selling parts. Hamels is also drawing interest from the Astros, but word from Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle is that the Astros expect the ace left-hander to land elsewhere. FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reported Wednesday afternoon that the Giants are "fading" in the Hamels chase. It's all coming together for Texas.

Rangers recalled RHP Jon Edwards from Triple-A Round Rock.

Edwards has posted very good numbers this season at the Triple-A level, but he has struggled mightily in the majors. The right-hander will pitch in middle relief.
Jul 29 - 4:48 PM

Rangers recalled LHP Alex Claudio from Triple-A Round Rock.

Claudio holds a solid 2.87 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 18 appearances this season at the major league level. The 23-year-old will function as a left-handed specialist.
Jul 29 - 4:47 PM

Rangers optioned RHP Phil Klein to Triple-A Round Rock.

Klein owns a 5.82 ERA in 17 innings this season at the major league level. He'll get another shot at some point.
Jul 29 - 4:46 PM

Rangers designated LHP Wandy Rodriguez for assignment.

Wandy was lit up for seven earned runs in just one inning of work Tuesday by the Yankees. The 36-year-old left-hander has shown promise at times this season, but it seems like he'll probably pass through waivers. He has a 4.90 ERA and 1.56 WHIP in 86 1/3 innings.
